Big Game on Wheels - Wilpattu

We had a fantastic time staying at Wilpattu house over 5 days from 31.05.2022-04.06.2022. Sereno is a great host, and was very informative about the local area as well as the country as a whole. We regularly asked him questions about where to go next and what to do there (we are backpacking Sri Lanka over the course of a month) and he gave many great suggestions. While staying with him my wife and I undertook 3 days safari in Wilpattu national park where we saw 3 leopards, sloth bear, elephants, water buffalo and many other mammals, birds and reptiles! A local river beside Sereno’s property was very refreshing to take a dip in and we had the whole river practically to ourselves! Special thanks go to Sereno’s staff who cooked truly amazing local cuisines for us while we were there. The accommodation is simple, which Sereno always makes clear on his website. Guests should be aware of this when booking as my wife and I had a great time, but understand that it may not be for everyone. Brits who aren’t used to wall-to-wall heat and humidity should be aware that there is a fan in the room to make you comfortable, but the tropical heat can be a bit punishing if you are used to air con in warm weather. Regardless, certainly for the cost-conscious this is a steal, and made all the better because of the friendly, approachable host who ensures you have an enjoyable stay!
