Abazhur na Fontanke Living Quarters

Abajour/Abazhur is in a classic old building overlooking the river. The rooms are a good size and have ensuite bathroom/shower. The bed was comfortable and the dark furniture suited the old style high ceilings. Good free WiFi. There is a small kitchen/dining room on the same floor with coffee/tea making, a share of a guests' fridge and access to toaster/microwave etc if you want to eat in. This is a cosy arrangement that makes the whole experience more like a supported flat share than a hotel as such. The staff are very friendly and helpful and although their English is very limited their enthusiasm in wanting to communicate and be helpful via assorted translator Apps is both charming and fun. Staff were also extremely helpful and reliable in helping with their roles in the somewhat complex visa and local formal reporting requirements for tourists in Russia Although there is a small Hotel sign it is easily missed...the number 86 on Fontanka is your best guide in locating the hotel. (the 2 refers to Second Floor of the building...appears Ground floor = first floor). Location was just right for us...within easy access of major tourist sites while also being able to easily access more authentic (and better value) parts of St Petersburg. Have no doubts about returning to this good value and friendly mini hotel.
