To our surprise we got a one bedroom apartment with kitchen and living room, all very clean and nice at a very good price.  The service was very good and we couldn't have asked for more basically.  We are definitely coming back.

Clean and spacious apartment and great service.

There are several types of apartments at Holar C&A. We stayed at one of the very nice and roomy cottages, good beds, kitchen, good showers. We also enjoyed the geothermal swimming pool & Sauna at the premishes. Will certainly stay there again when in Skagafjord. This is one of the most interesting historical places of iceland with history back to 1000, the first learning institute of Iceland was established there in 1106, a Latin school and later a church school. Site of the icelndaic Bishop for centuries. Today there is a University in the old Agricultural College, teaching Tourism and Community affairs, Horsemanship & breeding as well as Aquaculture offering degrees up to Masters and PhD.

One  of the "good" places of Iceland

One night stop in Holar for a visit to the northern fjords. Reading the reviews our expectations were very low. (I emphasize that the room was assigned to us by the tour operator in a closed box). We arrived a little late with the time. We have to go to the reception of the University to pick up the keys. If there is no one like it happened to us we have to call one of the numbers on the table. In just under 5 minutes we were given the key. We were assigned a cottage with a mountain view. Very hot, even with cooking floor and everything needed to cook. Tastpan and coffee machine. the washing machine. Not even a set of Latesia (little bread matters). In a nice night we had to call one of the real juice. So we had to finish the delivery in a very nice state and we had to get a very nice cold and finish the sausage.

Let There Be Peace

We stayed in a wooden chalet here for just one night during our tour of Iceland. The chalet was nothing fancy, but well equipped, and we were able to get a bowl of soup and some bread in the refectory for a fairly reasonable price (for Iceland!). Set in a beautiful valley.

IF you can get a cottage, this place is amazing and was the best place we stayed on our Icelandic trip (we stayed in mostly guesthouses and average hotels).   It is very interesting, as it's at an equine science university, so we felt like we were getting a real Icelandic experience rather than staying in a tourist trap.

Our cottage was clean, roomy, and offered a full private bathroom (with laundry facilities!), kitchenette, living and dining area, and sleeping for 5 (two beds, a single bunk bed, plus a sofa sleeper for 2).  Also had a patio with two patio chairs.  The kitchenette had a fridge, oven, sink, cooktop, and was fully stocked with dishes (incl wine glasses) and cookware.  We were also provided with towels and bed linens/pillows.  There is no wifi offered (although I am sure we could have asked?) and there is a TV.

They do have a restaurant, but the night we stayed was when the students were arriving back to the fall semester, so they only offered a 'burger bar', which we didn't want.  We drove 20 minutes into Hofsos for dinner instead, which was fine.  We did have the buffet breakfast the next day, which was plentiful and offered many great choices.  The grounds also have a small bar - my husband went there late at night to buy beer.

The surrounding area is beautiful, and they also have a swimming pool and hot tub.

I would definitely stay here again if I could get a cottage.

Cottage rental - best place we stayed in Iceland!

I would recommend visiting Holar's website, but prefer another accommodation for the night. We had a clean but standard apartment. Possibility to cook somewhat because there are few utensils and especially no refrigerator!!

They have apartments which are basically student dorms. These lack blinds to shut away the permanent sun light, and were in a poor cleanliness condition.As well the utensils were lacking and what was there needed serious scrabbing. Furthermore, the Wi-Fi, although indicated by us as a must, was not available.  We have to commend the front desk lady who went out of her way to help us and agreed at one point to give us the access codes to the internet. A plus was the presence of a washing machine and the means to dry our laundry. The pool area was under constraction so we didn't have the option to relax in the hot tab that was promised.
There are no food stores nearby to stock up on goods. Breakfast was quite standard. This place should only attract people on a tight budget.

Student dormitories aspiring to accomodate tourists

We came to Holar thanks to a report on the internet that recommended it! There are 4 houses and a church with the university facilities around! it was a business to find the reception! the rooms are university retired model, not cured, with few plates and pots!! there is no wifi and you have to go to the reception hall to connect!! the price is absolutely expensive for what they offer you!! do not turn your way to reach Holar!!

Avoid it!

They have two levels of apartments.  The cottages were dark and very tiny not pleasant to spend any time in.  The units are run down.  They have another level of apartments which were roomier but still were basically student dorms   the area however is beautiful for a quick visit.  Both the locall beer place and the horse museum were closed last weekend. Lily at the front desk went out of her way to help us.  There are no food stores nearby to stock up on goods. Breakfast was quite standard.  This place should only attract people on a tight budget.


This is a  truly basic place to stay.

Very nice and large apartment a little difficult to find the reception. at the restaurant it is to be found. breakfast is very weak compared to others in Iceland too many lights at night in, around and before the plant
