Guest house Old Gori

Gori is an interesting place, in spite of its infamous place in history as Stalin's early childhood years. The museum houses all manner of his possessions and pictures. His birth home is also kept there and one can visit his parents' rented rooms. Outside is his train carriage as it was all those years ago.

Stalin's birth place

We stayed one night in Gori in order to visit some places nearby (and not have to rush to the next place). The Old Gori guesthouse is located centrally in Gori. Stalin museum is a 20 minute walk and the Gori castle 10 minutes. We arrived around noon at this guesthouse, which was probably too early as there was no-one around. The phone number mentioned on the door + on my booking confirmation didn't work... so we were a bit puzzled about what to do. We left our luggage in one of the rooms and locked it (the keys were on the doors) and left a note for the owner (who called me when she arrived). The room we were given was spacious and had two single beds. One of the beds was squeaking quite badly and we had to take the mattress out of the bed and sleep on the ground. The curtains in the room were very thin and didn't quite darken the room but we did have a good night's rest in spite of this. Breakfast was not included. The bathroom was shared with other guests, but we had the impression that we were the only ones staying there at the time. Overall, we had a good stay in this guesthouse.
