It was very hard for us to find the place, since Google maps show a different location, but in the same street though. There was no sign, so we walked for a long time in the heat, desperate to find it. To be fair, we afterwards saw that the hostel had sent a mail, explaining how to get there, since they probably know it can be difficult. 

The rooms are very nice! So fresh, new, modern and comfortable. Bed and pillows are amazing, and the best quality we have experienced on lower-cost hostels so far I South America. The bathroom as well is new and clean, with a loooovely shower with hot hot hot water. 

What we didn't like...

There are many dogs on the property and nearby. Not a problem in the day, if one does not have a problem with dogs. In the night the dogs would act hostile though. They would bark and growl, and there were many of them. We didn't dare to go in to the hostel area in the night, and had to ask someone to drive us. In the end we decided to move because of this. We didn't feel comfortable not being able to go out for dinner in the night because of the dogs that would wait for us while going home. 
It should be said that the hostel is placed rather rural, and it is completely dark around the hostel and on the long road one have to follow to go from the centre and to the hostel. 
If it is preferable to live in peace and away from the centre, this may be a good place. We actually liked that, but is was not worth it for us. 

The lady taking care of the hostel is very nice! 

Due to location and scary dogs I cannot rate higher than 2.

Scare dogs, but nice rooms

The tranquility, a very cozy house with a quinceau for your late-night roast with friends and especially the attention of Mrs. Maribel (in charge of the place), keeps everything in order and very clean. 100% recommended!!

Much Tranquility...

We were married and stayed in this hotel and it was perfect, we rented a car and could leave it in front of the room, which was warm and clean, everything we needed, including a common area where food could be prepared, we made breakfast and dinner there leaving things in a very convenient common refrigerator.

A four-night visit

It's a small hotel with a few rooms with a common kitchen (and a common interior area).The hotel is 10-15 minutes walk from downtown which is appreciated because it's very quiet without the noise of tourists or bars.The road is nice but at night you have to carry a flashlight.The room was clean and tidy.The shared kitchen has a heater, microwave, refrigerator.They even have laundry service.Maribel, the housekeeper, is very friendly.The only thing missing here is a shared area on the outside.

Pleasant, clean and very quiet.

This accommodation is in line with the accommodations that you can find in San Pedro de Atacama, rustic, cabin type. The owner is very kind and tries to offer you everything you need, in my case we made a late check-out at no cost until the night our flight left. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. It is very quiet because it is far from the center. The problem is that it is quite far from the center (although you can walk without any problem) and in an area where there are no more accommodations so that the tours buses sometimes do not go looking for you because the alley is narrow. It does not have a well-prepared patio to share your ban at night and in a place like San Pedro where nights are incredible with the sky that you have ever seen.

Good experience

It's a nice place to stay. Everything is new on the bedroom, since the toilet until the wardrobe. The bed is so comfy and the blankets were made it warm enough to stay at night. I loved the shower that it has hot water with a lot of pressure. The sink works as well with the same hot and abundant water, if you need it. 
The access to the hotel is through a street 10 minutes nearby to San Pedro de Atacama's downtown. In the night, you'll need use some light to see some parts of the path, but the sky crowded of stars make your walk to home a different experience, a free sky observation. Remember: the Atacama sky has the most visibility in the world. The highest cientists are there to study the sky and discovery the most that we know about the cosmos.
There is a common area that you can put something on the fridge, watch TV on a comfy couch or make some breakfast or lunch if you want to save some money.
The hotel has the same mood of San Pedro. It's quiet, clean and the people who work there are too much attentives.
I wanted stay everyday in that place, but I could not. The reservations were sold out. Pay attention to do your reservations much advanced because I had to change to another place in the middle of my stay in San Pedro.
I recommend Casa Ancestral. It's a lovely place to stay in San Pedro de Atacama.

A lovely place to stay on desert

San Pedro de Atacama has a spirit and the Casa Ancestral hotel perfectly understands the characteristics of the city to integrate with the place. The rooms have the necessary comfort to rest and replenish the energies after an intense day of activities. The shower has plentiful and warm water.

I loved the service and courtesy of the receptionists. The presence of docile dogs and friends helps create an even more delightful environment. The wifi works, the fridge is also good and the armchairs in the common area are extremely comfortable.

The price is good and it is average in the city, but the quality delivered is above expectations. The location allows viewing of a beautiful sunset. The hotel is close to Caracoles Street, the main one of the locality.

The road is dirt, but this does not come close to being a problem. Enjoy the way to look at the infinite, plunge into the ocean of stars and be closer to the sky. It is the best place to see the constellations around the world. The bridge that exists on the road is not defective. It has a small space in the middle because this is a typical bridge, which allows the passage of people and cars, but hinders the crossing of animals.

Whoever complains about the dirt road and the dark path (if you want, it is easily solved with a simple cell phone flashlight) does not understand the spirit of San Pedro de Atacama and the effort of the people of the Andes to be warm and receptive. Casa Ancestral: simply stay here!

Fantastic and charming hotel

I had to change my plans at the last moment so I reached Casa Ancestral to find a solution (the evening before our arrival). Fortunately, they have been really accommodating and helpful regarding my booking and stay at the hotel. It's also really easy to contact them via WhatsApp! I only had to wait a few minutes to get an answer and they proposed a solution very fast! Great service. 

Great approach solving customer needs

This could be such a nice place with a bit of work. The rooms are very nice, really cute and good taste. The shower is great, big and no issues with hot water and pressure (which can be an issue in San Pedro). There is a common kitchen and living room, including a washing machine, for everyone to use. The woman who looks after the place is usually there watching TV. It can look a bit intrusive at first but it's just first impression. This is a nice common place and it feels like being at home. 
There are issues though, the towels never get changed, even when we leave them in the floor. We had to ask for them to be changed but then got one that was still dirty. The hotel is a bit far (15 mins) from the main street in the centre and you have to walk on a street with no light. It can feel intimidating at night so bring a torch. There is a large space in the middle, which is just sand at the moment. This could be so much better with a couple of benches and tables, to sit and watch the stars and just socialise with other guests. At the moment it's quite uninviting and people tend to stay in their room. It's a pity because this place could be very nice with a bit of work.
