Rio Mayo

Great opportunity to experience the Argentine Patagonia. This is a lovely place. It is part of an old estancia. The owners maintain an excellent place with a great agricultural landscape, spacious rooms/kitchenettes and offers exquisite dinners prepared by the owner herself. One of the best accommodations in the region.

One of the best places to experience Patagonia!

We stayed one night as a strategic stop between the chalten and Bariloche, a very rustic place. We stayed in the rooms with new construction, these are very cozy and clean. We didn't get to know the owner, but Rosalia who works there was excellent and did everything to please us.

Rustic and cozy

We came to Rio Mayo after a long drive through the cobblestone streets from Puerto Aisén in Chile. It was very relaxing to dive into this little green oasis after all the dust. The Estancia consists of a main house and two bungalows in the middle of a garden with flowers and trees. We were staying in the main house. The reception and ambiance are very familiar. The rooms are large, bright and well furnished. Tea and breakfast are available in the dining room of the house. The living room can also be used. Food is available in the village 7 km away on a rough slope.

Quiet oasis after a long, dusty journey

It is an excellent place to experience the essence of the countryside of Patagonia, a rural environment with an extraordinary view, where you can eat top-quality Argentine steak Served by people who know how to please each other, including its owner.

Excellent place to stay.

The best Cabanías on our way to Argentine Patagonia, there is no house in the premises, although the station))) We were very well received, waited and provided a warm house at our disposal. Very clean and comfortable, a full kitchen with a refrigerator and gas stove, as well as a beautiful iron stove, very useful in the morning. There are gas heaters in the house, but we did not use them, in the living room stove and in the kitchen as well, we burst and slept until morning comfortably. The one-bedroom bedroom is small for two adults, but in the living room there are two wide sofas))) In the shower, great effort, from tomorrow morning it was nice to clap. In the conditions of the flow of the air and the air has a beautiful view of the stove, the stove of the living room and the kitchen too, we went out and slept until morning comfortably.

The best Cabanías on our way to Argentine Patagonia.

We stayed in the same cabana as other guests commented upon.The cabana and main house eating area are decorated in lovely country style Spanish decor which is not dated but presents glimpses of the history.Norma the owner and her Mum provided a late night snack for us after we arrived at 930 pm,and a wholesome breakfast.the cabanas wer more like a small home with all facilities for a lovely overnight stay.I was reminded of outback stations in country Australia.The estancia is located a few kilometres down a stony road accessible fromCalle Perito Moreno which is a little difficult to find at night

Oasis in th dessert

We stayed a night at Estancia Don Jose on our road trip up the Ruta 40. The estancia is a couple of kilometres outside the dusty little town of Rio Mayo and is reached by a very bumpy gravel road. Rio Mayo has little to offer the traveler other than a petrol station, which is worth its weight in gold in Patagonia.
Estancia Don Jose is a working estancia, stocked with sheep. Norma, the hostess, looks after the guest accommodation and her brothers the estancia. 
We stayed in the large cabana which has a large kitchen/lounge area, bedroom and bathroom. It is well equipped and well furnished, rustic and rather dated. The bed is comfortable and we had a very quiet peaceful night's sleep. 
There are also rooms in the main house.
You could sort out your own food here, but Norma cooked us and the other guests a lovely roast lamb dinner served in the main house.
Breakfast was a large spread of cold meat, cheese, cereal, fruit and pastries - all you need to set you up for the day.
Negative points were the instant coffee at breakfast and caution is required for the hot water in the bathroom - it is very hot,and I would advise giving the bidet a miss. There is no wifi.
So, to sum up, this is a nice place to rest for the night and refuel yourself and your car if you find yourself in the Rio Mayo area.

Good sleep and pit stop.

A good place to go, the people are very friendly and have a lot of information about the surroundings, I thought we could make more of a stay at the place but it wasn't so, no more than one night, the food is very good and abundant at home.

A good location near Rio Mayo.

We are on our way back to Brazil during a motorcycle trip through Chile and Argentina. We found the Estancia Don Jose by a booking site. We arrived there at 23 hours and were super tired! We were received by Norma, with an impressive sympathy and kindness! A lady who we believe to be her mother, made us a dinner and also served us a good wine Malbec de Mendoza. It seemed like we were at home! I recommend the Estancia Don Jose to everyone!!

Great accommodation and excellent service.

We were at the end of December 2017, very nice the surroundings, the large, comfortable, well-equipped cabin, surrounded by many bamboo trees, was a sleeping pleasure feeling the bamboo leaves moving with the wind.Norma, the owner, was waiting to advise us as to what to do, where to eat, and in everything we need, very kind. Very complete the breakfast. It is a lovely place to stay on the way to the South of our Patagonia.
