Truc Quynh 2 Hotel

We were on a 4 day tour provided by our Saigon hotel with trip accomodtion arranged by the tour company. They dropped us off at a hotel that they had told us was nice but it was horrible! They showed us a few rooms but was totally unacceptable, stunk of smoke, with the desk staff looking a little like their rooms! The tour guide got on his phone and offered us a property outside of the main town that was new and therfore only 1* but nice. On arrival they showed us a room that met our requirements and smelled very fresh and clean! Personally, I like to have bedside cupboards for phone, drink etc which they don't have but I could live with that and we had 2 chairs so could pull one over to the bedside. Nice bathroom, toiletries provided also. They don't provide breakfast but had been coerced by the tour guid to give us some breakfast, suggestion of omlette. Khanh, who spoke very good English (and Chinese) asked us what we would like, explaining they normally only offer rooms, and we confirmed omlette was OK. Later she offered to make us a Vietnamese dish but we said we were ok with omlette. In the morning we had sausage, sunny side up eggs, french bread and a plate of fruit. Khanh & family were very friendly and hospitable and we enjoyed chatting with her. We would recommend this hotel, there is a coffee shop just across the road where you can have breakfast and also some shops a couple of minutes up on the same side. We didn't get to explore them as only there 1 night. Its about 2 minutes by taxi or 15 minute walk to the start of the main city - by 2 beautiful churches and wonderful new Grasslands coffee shop! From there you can walk to the riverside in about 10 minutes. A very clean and friendly town, we were lucky to be there for TET and enjoyed the flower festival and the flower markets along the river! So many flowers! We will go back there and recommend anybody who is thinking of visiting Vietnam to be there for the January Lunar New Year (TET) where you will be amazed at the flowers everywhere and especially the city displays.
