Samuel Durfee was lovely. Heather and Mike are such great hosts and made us feel like we were at home. This is what we were looking for as an alternative to a hotel so we really appreciated it. We would stay again without hesitation.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Samuel Durfee House in October. We had a comfortable room with a very cute outside deck! The breakfasts were absolutely fantastic. Michael and Heather were very friendly and gracious hosts. The location of the inn was so convenient! We were able to walk easily to shops, great restaurants, and to the meeting point for our mansion tour on the Newport Travel Trolley Tours! It was so convenient to park the car and not worry about traffic in town!

This bed and breakfast was perfect! My wife and I just spent a long weekend there and we both loved it! The innkeepers Heather and Michael were awesome! They both made the stay a fantastic experience! Breakfast was incredible! We stayed in the Perry Room which was beautiful and very clean. The room is set in the back of the house so it is nice and quiet. The house itself is located on spring street which is perfectly located one block back from Thames street. Thames street is the busy main street of Newport. Close enough to walk to it but far away from the commotion. There is a spacious parking lot that is onsite with plenty of space. We will definitely return to this AMAZING bed and breakfast!

Delightful place, within walking distance of so much! Room was charming and the innkeepers were gracious. You didn’t see them, but when you needed them- there they were! Delicious, generous breakfast in a quaint setting. We’ll definitely go back!

My wife and I just got back from a wonderful seven night stay at the Samuel Durfee House.  Michael and Heather were the perfect hosts and were always helpful on things to see and places to eat. 
  The breakfast was exceptional; the best of any bed and breakfast we have ever stayed in.  Michael being the cook and Heather being an attentive hostess.  We often felt we were the only ones at the Inn.  The rooms are quiet, nicely furnished with a very comfortable bed.  The Inn is centrally located with private parking and it was easy to come and go.  Again, I can't say enough about the nice hospitality that Michael and Heather showed us.  My wife agrees that this was one of the most wonderful (if not the most) bed and breakfast we have ever stayed in.  We hope to come back soon.

A last minute trip to Newport for our 1 year wedding anniversary and we were lucky enough to be able to book the last available room at the Samuel Durfee House. This is an absolute gem of a bed and breakfast so if you have the opportunity, definitely take it. The location is perfect, they have private parking for guests and you can easily walk to Thames St for dinner, shopping, sunset sails etc. The breakfast is so so delicious, every morning offering you a piece of coffee cake of sorts with your coffee to start and then giving you a choice of savory and sweet for your meal (think quiche, frittata, pancakes, French toast, etc etc). Found out this husband and wife team have run this charming B&B for 25  years and are complete professionals. Both lovely people who make sure their guests have everything they need. Thank you Heather and Michael for an awesome stay :)

This place was great! Heather and Michael were very hospitable. From check-in to dinner suggestions to the delicious breakfasts, everything was just what we had hoped for. Being one block back from Thames St the inn was nice and quiet. The location is fantastic for walking to everything Newport has to offer. Other than our drive down Ocean Ave and to the start of Cliff Walk, we left the car parked all weekend long.

Beautiful, comfortable, house. Right near the water and central to everything. Beyond that, the hosts are so welcoming that we felt like friends/family right from the first moment.

And the food. Oh my goodness. We had breakfast three days and it was exceptional each day. 

The next time I come to Newport this will be where I stay.

My husband and I went to this wonderful Inn in May to beat the crowds The Inn its self is charming with very old world period Furniture in this late 1800s Inn. We had a room with a king sized bed and sheets/bedding/pillows very comfortable. Loved the Very soft/comfy robe in the rooms. They serve a very nice breakfast (bacon was fab!) in a charming Dining room. The couple who run the Inn couldn’t be nicer. Inn was clean quiet and just what we wanted and a quick walk to downtown Newport. We will definitely be going back to this beautiful Inn in Rhode Island. And they also offer off street parking which is important in Newport. You will NOT b disappointed. Enjoy!

We have stayed at this property in the past this time we stayed in a different room, which was a little smaller than we had been used to .. but Everything was clean and neat. We did like the patio outdoors off our room.  The bathroom had a shower stall, no tub which was fine with us. It’s a lovely rustic period house. Loved that a private parking lot was provided as parking is very limited. Breakfast was good and the couple who run this B&B r very nice & knowledgeable about the area activities.  Easy walking to bars/restaurants, downtown area, shopping.

Beautiful quiet-area late 1800s Inn

My wife and I visited Newport for a weekend getaway, and we wanted something different from the waterfront hotels, something quiet, comfortable, and charming. Samuel Durfee House definitely fit the bill! 

The building was full of historic charm and period decor (be ready for small closets and floor boards that creak when you get up in the middle of the night), but it also included modern touches that helped make it very comfortable (recently renovated bathroom, flat panel TV on the wall). We stayed in the Harrison Suite on the first floor and really enjoyed the small sitting room attached to the bedroom -- it was convenient to have a place to sit and read with a cup of coffee while waiting for my wife to wake up. 

Our hosts were delightful and friendly, quick to help with information or something for the room, happy to chat as much or as little as guests like and with plenty of local knowledge. Breakfast each morning was amazing, with a freshly baked morning bread or pastry to start and then a full meal accompanied by tea, coffee, and juices. We devoured everything they cooked for us, and the blueberry pancakes I had our first morning were possibly the best pancakes I've had in my life. 

The house is just one block up from Thames avenue, so there is easy walking access to tons of shops and restaurants, and it's a short walk to the waterfront and the wharves. There is a bit of traffic on Spring Street, but despite that the house itself was very quiet and peaceful for our stay. 

I would highly recommend anyone stay here on a visit to Newport. 

Charming, Quiet, Quintessential New England B&B

This was our 3rd time staying here.  Very clean room (Perry Room) with a cozy balcony.   Delicious hot breakfast with the option of dining inside, outside or in room.  In the afternoon, snacks are also offered.

We especially like the location:  shops, restaurants and waterfront all within walking distance.  

There is a refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker in the room, which is very convenient.  The room is also very quiet for sleeping.

Michael and Heather are excellent hosts; very attentive to their guests' needs.  I would highly recommend this B&B.
