The Beach on Longboat Key by RVA

We decided to take a trip close to home and found this resort. We booked a studio condo with a gulf balcony. We were on the 2nd level and found the room spotless at check in. The furnishings were modern and everything was in working condition. The TV was hard to figure out but we really didn't spent much time inside. The pool was clean and refreshing. The beach was quiet and not crowded at all. The resort was 10 minutes from St Armands Circle. We went for dinner and had a great time. I have already recommended this resort and we just got home today!

Perfect spot for a weekend getaway! Its right on the beach and close to both Lido Beach and Anna Maria Island. Bradenton Beach is close by too with lots of cute restaurants and shops. Will definitely come back!

Absolute paradise !! Beautul beaches, clear blue ocean and wonderful hotel. We did not want to leave but will come back here every  year or more if we can.

The pool overlooks the gulf of mexico and all rooms are so close to beach.

Whitney beach is a very special place. Not many folks know about it. There are only about 15 parking spaces but if you get lucky to find a spot it is well worth it.  Very secluded and beautiful. Its located just across bridge at Coquina beach. Turn at the 2nd right and walk across the wood bridge to beach. Enjoy your day.

My husband and I took a last minute trip and ended up at The Beach. We booked it as a hot rate hotel on Hotwire and could not have been more pleased. We received unit 111. Everything was clean and updated and quite spacious for a one bedroom. It was cool when we visited so we didn’t get to use the pool, but this unit was on the ground floor and very convenient to the pool area.  This unit also had a stackable washer and dryer which was nice since we were there a week. The beach is so close and there were plenty of beach chairs. Every employee we encountered was nice and maid service was provided each day.  We would definitely stay here again.

Family took a drive and found a public beach in Longboat Key. The beach isn’t big but it’s not crowded and very relaxing. There is beach parking for only about 6 cars or you can park across the street at the Town Hall. There are lots of shells to pick through on the beach, if you like that sort of thing.
Not much activity or sea vessels to keep our attention but that was fine for us.

We stayed in unit 221 in March 2023.  Overall, we thought the place was overpriced because it wasn’t as comfortable, modern, or clean as it should have been.  Some things were fine (the central air and the bathrooms) and many just weren’t up to par (stuffing and springs falling out of the one LR chair, none of the TVs has a decent picture (no HD?), kitchen stove has non-working burners and displays worn off, kitchen equipment is unpredictable - no potholders, for example).  The balcony is half the size of the others on the 2nd floor, the on-site office was never staffed when we were there and the rental agent answered one but not the other of our emails, and the “complimentary” beach chairs, shared by all and not set aside for each unit, were broken and too few.  We have rented at other places on this beautiful beach and never paid as much for as little.

Very pricey, but second floor room has great beach and sunset views. I walk the beach a lot, and this one was pretty good,with good walking sand and not too many people or shells. 

Unit was fairly old, patio doors and screens barely worked, uncomfortable sofa and kitchen chairs tough to tolerate without extra cushions. It needs a good cleaning, as dust was accumulated on top of the fridge and under all furniture. 

The promised beach lounge chairs and umbrellas were the worst I’ve ever had in six or so Florida stays. Over half of the lounges disappeared mid week for restrapping and never reappeared, not even the next week. One couple hosting six others from off-property “reserved” four lounges thereafter, leaving only two for the other 12 units. The lounges left were somewhat saggy. The umbrellas were worse than ones I’d use in a sandbox at home, with only 3 or so poles to sink them onto the sand. The poles did not hold in sand. However, the property teases you with four other poles that corkscrewed into the sand, but would not hold the flimsy umbrellas due to differing pole diameters. 

Don’t depend on any cleaning or room assistance, except replacement towels and linens if you go ask for them and are lucky to find them in stock. If you want to remake your bed or clean the tub, go ahead, but they’ll charge for that or any other “mid-stay” service during your stay, as it’s not included in the $400 mandatory cleaning charge and admin fees. At least the unit had a broom and dustpan to daily sweep up the dust and sand that accumulates on the floors. 

For $400+ per night, I expected something better than just a good view and five minutes from room to beach.

Great view, nice beach, old units

We have stayed at 2 RVA properties several times in the past. The Beach offers a nice beach with easy access, great Gulf views from the 2nd floor and good housekeeping service. Our most recent  10  day  stay  in February 2019 was marred by an uncomfortable situation with Murphy beds and a "bed in a box". It seems RVA management does not know the difference.When we made our reservation in April 2018 the unit was to contain a Murphy bed (with a comfortable mattress) as shown on the website and confirmed in telephone conversations with an RVA representative. Sadly -we - a senior couple- now know  the difference.
On check-in, there was a bed already made up; this turned to be a "bed in a box". For the first night we used the "bed" - a very uncomfortable experience as the mattress was a very thin foam material with quite distinct fold creases (to allow storage in the box). We told on site staff about this, they were quite sympathetic but informed us there were no alternatives as the Beach was fully booked. In an attempt to solve the problem they set up the pull out sofa ; another uncomfortable night. One of the staff took the foam mattress and put it on  top of the sofa mattress - still quite uncomfortable. Since furniture had to be rearranged we did not have full use on the unit as the sofa bed was left up all the time, there was no comfortable seating, only dining room chairs, coffee table pushed up against the balcony door , sofa cushions stacked in several corners. We made several complaints about the misrepresentation of the sleeping arrangements; the on site staff showed genuine concern but senior management was not the least helpful.  
Our comment - a bad back is a bad day and a very bad stay.
We did contact management and since there had been no solution to the problem we felt there should be some financial compensation for our discomfort and inconvenience over the 10 day stay. After several emails, RVA advised they would process a credit for $207.20, which consisted of $185.00 from the unit owner and $22.50 from RVA, which we felt was stingy, not even the cost of one night's stay. We expressed our disappointment and they offered us a free night if we came back in 2020! Unfortunately, at our age the future is a bit uncertain and 2020 is a long way off.

This Murphy bed got our backs up....more like broken

Booked for 6 nights January 9-14, 2019.  The reservation was made Oct 4, 2018.  The resort decided to NOT let us know prior to our arrival of the scheduled exterior renovation work next to our condominium apartment which started the day after the night we arrived.  We would have gladly moved the dates of our stay to avoid the nearly impossible atmosphere created by the heavy duty sanding, drilling, and grinding noises which lasted for hours on multiple days.  This work made staying around the property very unpleasant and unhealthy as clouds of dust and grit settled on the pool and patio area as well as the balcony outside our apartment over looking the Long Boat Key beach/Gulf of Mexico in front of the resort.  We could not sit on our balcony during or after the work ended each day. Even our car was covered with this nasty material created by the work.  Otherwise, I could imagine a nice setting in a quiet, beautiful scene right on the water.  The room service staff was very good and the condo would be more than adequate if under normal circumstances.  We were given a written pass to visit a couple of alternative resorts in our packet of information when we arrived the night before the work started as a substitute for the lack of useable amenities.  One of these alternative properties did not even know of this arrangement to use the pool, etc.  We didn't bother going to the other one at that point.  Thankfully, there are many wonderful restaurants, shopping, and other things to do and see on LBK and the general Sarasota area.  That aspect was very good.  However, for the rental fee involved to "The Beach on LBK" we did NOT get our monies worth considering the mess we had to deal with at the resort.  Very disappointing!
