We thoroughly enjoyed a Relaxing family visit in February to Thanet Well lodge retreat.  Positioned in between Penrith and Keswick, perfect to roam the beautiful Lake District and Cumbria and only 45mins to glorious Buttermere. 
The site was very quiet with a lot of dog walkers and generally older couples I noticed. 
The reception had a little shop onsite with good prices which is a rarity ! 
The lodge was clean and tidy, and with a tv in every room.  The only thing was the free wifi was hit and miss which is unfortunate with this day and age. A better signal would have kept my daughter much happier! But, we will definitely return for a longer vacation.

Just got home from a lovely 3 night stay, we did book for 4 nights but had to
Come home for work, it was lovely not hurrying out and when we did check out there was no problems at all with this, we stayed in lodge 24 which was beautiful! & the scenes from the dining table out of the windows was lush for a cuppa! “When” we come again we will definitely ask for this lodge again, the staff was so lovely and give us every information we needed  , perfect location too! Less than 30 mins to Keswick, where we went to the puzzling place! Great fun,  & less than 30 mins to pooley bridge! Where we went on the Ullswater steamer and saw some beautiful scenes … would defiantly recommend to stay here

We stayed Friday while Monday for £285 so that definitely needs to be remembered for any negativity in this 

Location is perfect, yes there is very little nearby but that's the idea. We had a lovely late afternoon walk over Eyecott hill nature reserve which is relatively nearby and that was really good with the dog.  We nipped into reception for some recommendations on local walks. We visited "The Howk / Bobbin Mill and the surrounding village of Caldbeck with was also a nice few hours out and around 15 minutes drive away 

We stayed in the barrier 3 lodge and first impressions are that 5 years ago this would have been a 5 star lodge. It's now a little rough around the edges but still a very good place to stay. A few marks here and there and could probably do with a proper deep clean. We noticed it was maybe short of a few cooking trays e.g  pizza tray etc but other than that everything was good. Beds are comfortable enough no problem there.  Check in was quick and efficient and a lovely touch in the Dog VIP box it's not much but it's a nice touch. 

We will definitely look to comeback this time next year and hopefully look to one of the Hot tub lodges that have a tremendous view.

We absolutely love this place—this must be our fourth or fifth visit, and it definitely won’t be our last. The lodges always exceed our expectations. While the location is a bit of a drive from everything, it’s the perfect retreat for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Perfect Family break ! Dog friendly, immaculate accommodation. We got the room with the broken wine fridge but that  didn’t matter as the fridge in the kitchen was big enough.
Left treats/presents for the dogs on arrival - will definitely be back even if for just the comfy beds and great nights sleep 

We stayed here for a week in lodge 4, what can say other than we had the most relaxing holiday ever. The lodge was cozy  and clean and had everything in we needed. The views were fantastic of all the mountains and the hot tub was spot on, which got checked daily. All staff on site seemed friendly and helpful. There is some lovely pubs which are on a little drive away and some great walks. We will be returning. Thanks Thanetwell lodges for our wonderful holiday.

We have just got back from a lovely long weekend stay with family (3 lodges hired). The lodge was lovely, clean and very spacious. We will definitely return and maybe try a lodge with hot tub overlooking the spectacular views of the countryside. Amazing weekend thankyou

We are just on our way home from a lovely stay at Thanet wells lodge, we stayed in Ellonby 2 number 57. What a beautiful lodge! It had pretty much everything we could if needed including a washing machine, dishwasher, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and lots of other bits and bobs that made our stay very comfortable. The little welcome gift for the dog and the little suitcase tin that we got to keep where a really nice welcome. The layout of the lodge is beautiful and the en-suite in the main bedroom and walk in cupboard bit where a fabulous surprise. The grounds are very well kep and very clean, the small shop is handy for essentials. Check in and out where so easy and we where happily settled into our lodge within 10 minutes of arriving.
The beds where super comfortable and the lodge was warm and inviting with some lovely features. 
The views where stunning and the place is so peaceful that it really felt like a retreat. 
I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. We can not wait to return. We travelled as a family - two adults a 6 year old and a dog. Thanet wells out of the way of all the hustle and bustle of normal life but with a 10 minute drive there’s a lovely pub (boot and shoe) serving delicious food and dog friendly. The nearest supermarket is within 20 minutes.

We have just returned from here today after a 4 night break.  Check in and out was fast and friendly.  We were in lodge 34 right next to Reception.  It was roomy and very nice and comfortable.  It had everything you need including a washing machine and some small cleaning bits to get you started.  The site was lovely and peaceful and definitely a retreat.  The hit tub was perfect everytime we used it...temperature always nice and hot.  The dog got a lovely welcome gift.  The only downside was the lack of WiFi.. with it being so rural.  Missed Netflix etc but still give it 5 stars as didn't affect the overall experience.  The maintenance staff were also very accommodating when asked for an extension cable..brought it to me in less than 5 mins.  Much appreciated.   We shall definitely be returning and would highly recommend to anyone.

The decor is tired but I couldn’t fault anything else at all.  We had two dogs with us and the outdoor area was really secure for them to potter about while we enjoyed the hot tub

Relaxing February visit to the Lakes..

As with all lodges in this collection (I’ve stayed at a few) the site was clean and quiet. 

The lodge was pretty although the light placement didn’t feel natural so I seemed to spend the weekend seeking out light switches and trying to work out where the light was for the shower. They just weren’t placed in logical places.

But the lodge had good views and was clean enough. The views made it for me, I wouldn’t want to stop on the site in the lodges in the middle of the site as unlike other sites, the planting seemed very minimal so views seemed to be just of other lodges. Ours were of open fields thank goodness. 

We took the dog who got a ball, poo bag and meat strip chew. The dog was happy enough, she latched onto a lot of scents inside the lodge which made me wonder if the floors just get hovered and not mopped.

Overall the place was good but I had to explain to my partner not to focus on the negatives. He had quite a long list of things that were broken - the sofa with large slashes in it on one cushion on both sides, the cooker hood that didn’t work at all, the light in the fridge not working, the kitchen tap that was barely held in the unit etc… personally I can over look them as mere irritations.

What I did find off putting however was the lady at check in almost laughing when I was asking what was near by and where the restaurant was they had the menu on display for (the answer, not close or on site) and how what I assume is dirty laundry is stored.

There was a horrific storm over the weekend and when going in and out of the site, it wasn’t very appealing to see the metal roller cages full of laundry just abandoned in what is clearly their service yard. It just made me think of how rotten the bed linen must be getting sat outside for days in all weathers. 

Overall, good but I probably wouldn’t be prepared to pay more for the experience we had.

Overall a lovely stay and would consider coming back. Lodge nice and clear - few bits needed mending so reported to reception who were very helpful - stayed at a good number of Darwin Escapes and love the quality of these places - just a couple of points that would be beneficial, firstly some signs with the lodge numbers on and secondly the only real let down is the lack of WiFi (none in the lodge), in an area where the phone signal is weak this should be a basic amenity in the lodges and these days there is no real excuse for not having it.  

On site, just a small shop in reception. Nothing else.

PERFECT Dog Friendly Family Break - 5 STAR 

Amazing week holiday

Stayed for the weekend in cabin 3. We were very pleasantly surprised to see that we were given a huge space with 3 bedrooms when we expected 2! Kitchen and bathrooms were clean and spacious. Storage space in each room was fantastic also,  eg wardrobes drawers, dressing areas. The hot tub and the view really made our break, looking up at the blanket of stars, unreal. A couple of niggles, no much in the way of cleaning supplies or toiletries unfortunately just a bar soap and mini washing up liquid. Luckily we brought our own. The accommodation was clearly well used, alot of marked and scuffed walls and ripped/damaged decor, we also found a large mould patch in the main bedroom but nothing that stopped is enjoying our stay, will definetly return again.

Location and Space make it,  worth the money 

My partner,myself and my dog stayed here for 3 nights.  You do have to drive a wee bit to get a good walk with the dog. The lodge was very spacious,  few things have stopped me from giving this 5 stars. The bathroom and both bedrooms were very musty smelling , the ensuite in the main bedroom hadn't been cleaned properly from the previous guests (hair in the shower cubicle and the sink wasn't very clean) , the radiators were thick with dust in every room, I also think a extra light outside where the hot tub is would be great as it was quite hard to see anything.  All in all , i would definitely come back. They just maybe need to double the cleaning off the lodges.
