We booked here before I saw the mixture of reviews.  Yes, if you are looking of standard run of the mill accomodation then stay away. Yes, if you can't cope with smells other than air conditioning then stay away. But.... if you are looking for a bed for the night, a hearty breakfast in the morning and want to return to an authentic B and B experience as at once was then give this a go.  It is different but we had room 1 as a family room for one night and were well pleased.  Breakfast IS hearty and sets you up for day. (Yes we do live with 2 cats so used to pet smells)

Authentic farmhouse B and B

I have been somewhat hesitant to write this, as I feel quite sorry for the hosts whose business has been reduced, I am sure, by the bad reviews. Such reviews go back years and they have clearly not tried to make amends, perhaps can't afford to. But if adding my review helps others to avoid our mistake in booking to stay at Yew Tree Farm, then I have to submit it.
All I can say is that I endorse the previous reviews with a "Terrible" rating. I wish I had checked the Trip Advisor reviews first (the ones on Booking.com through which we booked all seemed - misleadingly - positive), then I would have saved us the worst night in a B&B we have ever had. The worst things were (1) the strong smell of old, stale pet urine from the landings area that we thought we were away from in our room, but it seemed to creep in during the night; (2) the uncomfortable, saggy bed and horrible, old, brown stained pillows; (3) the argument overheard during the evening from the 'guest lounge' which is adjacent to the owners' private lounge - there was a volley of abusive expletives directed by one of the owners to the other - not something you want to hear in anyone's house, let alone when paying to stay there. We almost packed up and left during the night but decided to brave it out and have breakfast. 
On telling our host that we were leaving after one night and not staying for the three booked, our host was clearly displeased and made us feel uncomfortable. I offered to pay a little more than the agreed night's rate to compensate for food bought in, although I didn't have to, of course, but I was asked for £100 because he said he would have to pay Booking.com commission on all 3 nights. I didn't believe it but couldn't be bothered to argue so paid and left. Booking.com phoned me later to check we only stayed one night, because he had contacted them, and they confirmed they would only charge him one night commission.
Thoroughly bad experience and lesson learnt.
Oh, but to be balanced I should consider the positives....... no, can't think of any. Even the breakfast, which has been complimented by others, we found to be mediocre at best. The host, Vern, was very pleasant until we decided to leave early. 
Pass it all off as quirky, if you like, but this is way, way below what is an acceptable standard of accommodation these days.

Worst B&B experienced (so far!)

We arrived at Yew Tree Farm and thought the outside was quirky, despite appearing to be in a run down state, so on we went. On entering the property we were greeted with a smell - a stench that I simply can't find words for! I thought initially that maybe it was because it was an old building and a certain musty smell was to be expected but as we were shown to our room I realised there was more to that smell than that. It was due to pure filth. The air was thick, there was cobwebs and dust everywhere and when we entered our room I thought I'd stepped into the early 90's; the decor was dire and the filth in the room indicated that it might not have seen a duster since that time either. I needed to use the toilet and when I went into the en suite I couldn't believe that the hosts could be so oblivious to the standards expected by paying guests, the toilet was filthy and the bath equally so. The host, who I have to say was initially pleasant and friendly although lacking in personal hygiene standards herself it would seem, had left us by now. When she left I Checked the bed and there I found food crumbs and bodily HAIR left behind by the previous occupants, so the bed had obviously not been changed. At this point we gathered our things and swiftly left. I told the hosts we would not be staying due the state of the room and they didn't even apologise or try to offer some kind of explanation. I have never in all my days came across such a dirty and smelly B&B, which is a shame really, because it's a fabulous old building which could be really great if it was in the right hands. This older couple have no longer got what it takes to run this type of establishment and they might want to consider handing it over to someone else who could do a much better job.

Dirty! smelly! avoid

I want to start this review by saying what ever you do - PLEASE DON'T STAY HERE!  I wish I had looked at tripadvisor before I booked it. 

I arrived for a night's stay during a 2 day dog show, so the fact they took dogs was good for me, and it was close to the showground.  

I was appalled at the foul smell when I was shown in, and I am a dog owner!  I was also appalled when I met a fellow guest taking their dog out for a pee, and she told me her dog had already left a 'little packet' on the floor . . . . . but it was ok, a bit of rug doctor would fix it!!!

I was shown to my room, first impression was quirky, and a brief look inside the en-suite didn't initially alert me - however, when I was left alone, and took another look, the filth shocked me - years of black grime and mould everywhere around the shower, even the shower screens were black and mouldy - they couldn't have even been wiped down between guest.  The floor had very old and encrusted mould around the skirting area, and the toilet was dirty.  I didn't want to touch anything, so just put their very old and thin towels on the floor to stand on (good job I took my own towel).

The communal areas were grubby, dirty carpets, and an awful smell.  

The following morning I needed to get going and check out - when I booked, it had been directly with the hosts, and we agreed £50 to include the dog.  When I checked their website, it should have been £40 for the room and £5 for the dog, however when I asked to settle up I was asked for £60!  There was definite friction when I said we agreed £50 (which I felt was a bit cheeky when the they published £40 on their website).  It got worse when I produced my credit card, and was told they didn't take card payments (I only had £10 cash on me)!  

Anyway - agreed £50 with them, and paid £50 via online banking when I got home - but really didn't want to pay them anything. 

Now, some of you might say 'what do you expect for £40/£50'?  - I'll tell you what I expect - I expect it to be clean, not a lot more, which is why I took my own towels, toiletries, kettle etc, but I DID EXPECT clean!

The hosts are very friendly and helpful, and I think they have been doing this for many years, but it is really time for them to stop - I don't think they realise how bad their accommodation is, and they really shouldn't promote their farmhouse as a b&b.

Stayed for a night and so wished we hadn’t!!!
A friendly greeting and then the shock. Our senses were immediately assaulted by the smell of dogs and cats. It was foul.
Taken to our room and the shocks continued. To say it was dirty is an understatement, it was filthy and the stench continued. It was nauseating. 
We survived the night by sleeping with the window open for at least some fresh air but in hindsight should have left on our arrival. A huge lesson to us both to check TripAdvisor revues BEFORE booking. 
Cannot understand how establishments like this are allowed to operate. It should be closed straight away. We realise this is a very old building but this is no excuse for the filth. Wifi was a joke despite being told it was accessible on certain areas of building
