The Gate Inn

The Holloway room offered very spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation - lots of room as included double and single bedrooms, large bathroom and good sized sitting room. Breakfast was very good and we also stayed for an evening meal (fish & chips) in the restaurant which was excellent. Lovely old inn in a good location and with a large garden so ideal if you have pets. Good value and a great place to stay.

We spent another weekend at the Gate.  It does what it says on the tin.

Total relaxation, great landlord and landlady, very welcoming.

Quiet, peaceful and a great get away from a London.

Rooms are clean and for us that's the main thing.  Don't care if there is a noise from loo or a bit if peeling paint, it's still a very clean b&b.  

Great breakfast.

Main point is the location, great walks all around and the peace and quiet is fabulous....

A def repeat customer and can't wait to go back. 

Booked this one nighter as a stopover whilst heading North from Cornwall back to Yorkshire. Meeting rellos nearby so this was a good choice for us. Warm welcome on arrival and the pub felt cosy and welcoming with a real fire going. The room was fine, clean & tidy with a comfortable bed & great en suite shower room. Tea tray & biscuits & TV in room but we made it straight back down to the bar for a pint of Old Hooky best bitter - a really good real ale pint, well kept. Our hosts looked after us well. Breakfast next morning was good - cereals, good coffee & the usual full English on offer. Very dog friendly - our Staffie was made a big fuss of ! This is an old country pub with rooms, if you are expecting the Ritz with Michelin nouvelle cuisine etc, this isn't for you. If you want a comfortable bed for the night in very pleasant surroundings plus some cracking real ales, this is for you. we loved it - thanks Anne & co :)

We stayed for one night on our way to a conference.  Landlord & landlady welcoming.  As we arrived we saw chickens cooking in the rotisserie and decided to have that for our evening meal - excellent.  Room clean & excellent shower

I sincerely think that we must have stayed in another place looking at the other reviews, I used to have a hotel, and have fallen victim of unwarranted and damaging reviews myself, therefore, I would never EVER give a bad review unless it was completely warranted, but this review, I can assure you is entirely warranted, and then some.

Right from the start, when we arrived in driving rain, with bags, a buggy, a baby and struggling to get through to the bar, the landlady "greeted us" with a "you'll have to go out again, your room is outside", no niceties, no welcomes, no help, just rounded us up and shuffled us outside,

The room? where do I begin,  I can't begin to say, it was filthy, a complete health hazard, we were charged £240 for a room that was disgusting,for 3 adults and a baby, yet when I came to pay, which believe me I didn't want to, as it was a grossly overcharged, I was presented with a bill for an extra £10, when asked what this was I was told it was for 2 x child's breakfasts, we only asked for and received a scrambled egg both mornings, one egg each morning for an extra TEN POUNDS - this couple who have the nerve to call themselves hosts, are vile, just laughed in my face when I complained, The triple (family) room, was not fit for a dog let alone a baby, open staircase that led down to the bar, where the owners kept all their old LP's and accounts, a child could easily fall down, another door led to an attic, the stairs and walls were covered in cobwebs and was filthy, yet another door led to the linen cupboard which smelt of damp and mould, shampoo and conditioner was just stored in the living room area, plugs sockets were thick with dust, the plugs had PAT testing labels on that expired in 2013, these should be tested every 2 years, bare copper pipe was exposed which was scorching hot and right next to the put u up bed, which in iteself could not be slept on, it was on a slanted floor and you would easily fall off.  The toilet brush was covered in human excrement.  Kettle had no auto turn off, could easily burn dry, cobwebs and dirt all over the room.

I would urge anyone reading this review to sincerely not waste their hard earned money on this establishment, the owners do not deserve to receive it, research the area, there are many B&B's and hotels in the area that you could enjoy.

I feel so strongly about this place, that I will most definitely be reporting them to the Environmental Health.
