The Wheelhouse

An outstanding bed and breakfast, with a quirky decor. Tony and Lynda were friendly hosts and gave us advice on walks and nearby pubs. 

Our room was comfortable and had a lovely rural outlook. Being out of town there was no traffic noise.

Great breakfast, with loads and fruit and many home cooked options.

We had a lovely stay here! Lynda and Tony were amazing hosts, they took us in last minute as a storm and broken tent changed our plans. We are so thankful they had a room left and welcomed us so warmly at very short notice! They are dog friendly which was perfect. The room was very cozy and the house itself is very traditional, cool and quirky. The breakfast was INCREDIBLE! All locally sourced products, so tasty. 
100% recommend, we would love to return. Thank you Tony and Lynda!

I really enjoyed staying at the Wheelhouse, it was welcoming, very comfortable and the décor was fascinating.  I was welcomed by tea and cake on arrival (consumed by the mill-pool) and shown where to stow my bike before being helped with my gear to my lovely room.  Lynda and Tony are great hosts and always busy as witnessed by the wonderful homemade (or grown) food produced for breakfast.  I've already mentioned the place on Facebook to my friends and I shall be looking for a reason to return, another bike ride?  Excellent but unfortunately too short a stay.

Such a great place! Lynda and Tony go the extra mile to help make the stay memorable.

Absolutely lovely old mill house and best breakfast. Nearly everything was home made and utterly delicious.
Linda and Tony are wonderful hosts and their home was enchanting. Everything you could wish for in a country get away. Peace and quiet, comfortable rooms a cream tea to welcome us.
We will be recommending to everyone we know and will be sure to return.

We were at the Wheelhouse for a friends birthday dinner and I have to say they were just great. Our group of 12 occupied the full dining room and we had a fabulous time. The food was excellent, after some sublime canapes most of us had the potted prawns and salmon; followed by the individual beef wellington followed by one of a superb selection of desserts. We were looked after by an incredibly genial host, who joined in our party atmosphere. The chef was a smashing lady and they were helped by a lovely lady who also joined in with the atmosphere. A superb night, thank you.

We stayed one night with Lynda and Tony and left feeling refreshed and full from a delicious home made breakfast.  Every detail had been thought through for an excellent stay and we will definitely be back and can highly recommend to other travellers.  The food was amazing, all home produced bacon, sausages, eggs and jams, yoghurt, bread etc.  The vegetarian options for breakfast were also homemade and delicious.  Lynda's previous experience as a trained chef really shone through, the seasoning was perfect.

Great little bb very cosy and quirky the breakfast was outstanding the rrom vety clean and comfortable had everything we needed beautiful gaeden and water mill was lovely Lynda and Tony were petfect Hosts nothing was to  much trouble for them we had some lovely homemade scones in our room on arrival and lynda even made me a birthday cake on my birthday which was delious would difnitely stay there again 

This was our second time here and we stayed for 2 nights over a period of a week. As before Tony and Lynda are exceptionally  good hosts and the breakfast is amazing and better than 5 star hotels. This a must stay bed and breakfast and looking forward to our next stay. Thank you to both of you

This was a lovely bed and breakfast. The owners are very friendly and the breakfast is amazing! The dogs are lovely too. I would recommend it to anyone!  The house is warm and cozy, and has everything you need.

Fantastic stay

The accommodation was typical of the Listed building's era. Beautifully kept and spotlessly clean this old wheelhouse was a museum of the Somerset Levels. The quirky layout with a water driven mill wheel in the lounge and the river running beneath the house is just the start to whet the curious mind. An important sluice gate for the Levels are outside the back door where a terrace sits above the River Parrott that can be used at any time of the year to enjoy the peace of the country and rumble of water as it tumbles through the weir.
Tony and Lynda are the perfect hosts who leave you not wanting anything because they provide everything (including the comedy).
The breakfast that Lynda offers (she is a professional chef by the way) is the talk of the Somerset Levels. No matter where you go, if the person you are talking to knows that you are staying at the Wheelhouse the 1st question they ask is 'have you had THE breakfast yet?'
You will not be disappointed!
The car is obsolete when you arrive because you can walk for ever from the front door to a wide variety of venues including the Cider press at Burrow Hill where you wouldn't want to be driving back from 🍹
A perfect escape from the city or mundane technology-filled lives of the modern world.

Quirky, quaint and quality quarters with quintessential cuisine. 

Tony & Lynda were just excellent from the second we arrived.
All Covid safe so I am sure a lot of what would happen in usual times was missing sadly, but this is the best place to stay if heading this way.

Room lovely, bathroom perfect and the breakfasts were just sublime.

Sunday morning I had the full cooked, not only was all the food local and fresh, it was cooked to perfection. I could name a few Michelin starred restaurants that could learn a lot by having a breakfast here!
Monday I had the smoked haddock and eggs and that was it, if I could stay here once a month I genuinely would.

The weather was still good enough to eat outside on Sunday early evening, so we had a BBQ pack from Lynda.
There was probably enough for 4 people nit just the two of us. Burgers, sausages, kebabs, homemade salads, sauces, breads and more.

If ever heading this way and you want a proper chilled time, this is the place to stay.
