Everything great, no complaints, staff lovely, highly recommended, Hope can return for another stay

Lovely clean room with all that you would need, had room high up in the top of the building up two flights of stairs so might not suit less mobile. Friendly accommodating staff. 

Decided to go to The Ship,as husband loves real ale and they were holding first ever Beer and Cider weekend. So booked dinner room and breakfast deal.Well! It was wonderful,food great,Beer good. Room excellent,breakfast tasty! Thanks to Alixe who made sure I had extra sourdough toast.....you were amazing! All staff wete professional and friendly. Can not wait to go again! Great stay, very convenient for beach. Lovely food, very friendly service

On Monday I had the very good fortune to dine at this historical venue. I was taking a friend from Paris to the Ship as she wanted Eton Mess and a relaxed dining experience in an English Pub. 

Her wish was granted 10 fold. 

When we arrived, albeit on a Monday night, the restaurant was buzzing with diners. The courtyard was oozing with happy contented couples and their dogs. The conservatory had a spare table but she opted for one of the tables at the bar. 

No sooner had we been sat at our table families and groups followed. 

The barman Rob took my friend under his wing and let her enjoy not one but two Independent brewery beers over the course of the evening. 

We opted for two starters of squid and a salad so fresh that you felt it really was just netted or a field to fork experience and the aubergine to share with flavour that tickled your taste buds.  All three were perfect companions to our conversations about the history of Dunwich, our venue and our very attentive barman and his staff b

The puddings were a sensational encore to our meal.  The Eton Mess did not disappoint and the vegan chocolate brownie is without a  doubt the best I have ever tasted. 

To summarise 11/10. -  a treasure in the Chestnut Group. 

My friend said it was the perfect end to her trip to England and a true testimony to the  relaxed inviting Suffolk hospitality she had requested.

Lovely rambling country pub with modern rooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we really felt welcome. Inside and outside dining with courtyard area and beer garden. I liked the slightly quirky building with several small dining rooms. Food was good and typical pub prices. The location is very quiet and nearby houses are hidden away. It’s only about 3 minutes walk to a fantastic beach, 5 minutes to the parish church and under 8 minutes to a monastery ruin. There is even a local museum a few houses up from the pub. It was a perfect way to spend a beautiful summers evening. We enjoyed our visit and would consider staying there again.

The Ship is in a quiet country lane 2 minutes from a fabulous beach. The staff are friendly and helpful, the room was really lovely, the bed so comfortable and ours had a beautiful view across the fields. We had dinner which was delicious too. A really peaceful place to stay.

My partner and I recently enjoyed a delightful 2-night stay at The Ship Inn, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by warm and welcoming staff who made us feel right at home.The accommodation was not only spotlessly clean but also charmingly quirky, adding a unique touch to our stay. Despite being mid-week, the pub buzzed with activity, filled with friendly locals that added to the cozy atmosphere.We made an advance dinner reservation at the dining area and were impressed by the menu selection and the quality of the food. Both the restaurant and pub staff were incredibly attentive and professional throughout our meal, ensuring a memorable experience.Breakfast was a treat with a nice selection of options available, all served to our table by cheerful staff, which was a lovely touch compared to self-serve setups.The location of The Ship Inn, just a stone's throw from the beach, was an added bonus, allowing us to enjoy leisurely strolls by the seaside.Overall, we felt incredibly well looked after during our stay and cannot wait to return. The Ship Inn truly offers a perfect blend of comfort, hospitality and charm, making it an ideal choice for a relaxing getaway. Highly recommended!

A nice stay but a few things could’ve been improved.   Food was lovely and staff were friendly.  However they just don’t have enough staff so the service was really slow.   The room wasn’t great for the money we paid either.   It was overlooked a bit and next to the kitchen so outside was a bit scruffy.  The toilet was broken too and my husband had to fix it.   Parking was a bit of an issue too.  When we arrived we couldn’t even get a space on the same road.  Lovely location though as walkable to beach.

We stayed for one night and the room and bathroom was very clean and all members of the staff were both very helpful and polite. Did not get 5 stars due to the smell we found in the bathroom. When the shower door was opened there was a bad drain smell that made it difficult to have a shower. It was mentioned on our departure and was noted but nothing came our way .

Lovely stay but not 5 star .

We have been here many times and always had great service and good food. It is a fabulous pub - the sort everyone would want as their local so..... we decided to stay for two nights to get the full experience and weren't disappointed.
Somehow Stewart, Rob and Jake and the rest of the team still deliver an authentic pub experience (great fire, nooks and crannies, super lighting, great beers etc) whilst offering excellent food, comfortable rooms (even with the low headroom in ours) and first class service.
A really great experience we are looking forward to repeating.

This was a really great stay, a warm welcome, a lovely cosy room and a first class dinner.  The people were really friendly, a lovely breakfast and it certainly exceeded our expectations.  We travelled to the Ship by car during storm Henk.  A 4 hour drive, flooded roads and driving rain almost made us give up this journey.  It was worth every minute and would love to return.  Thank you

A superb start to 2024

We went away for a couple of days for my daughter's and my birthday and it was perfect! We took our dogs and were all made to feel incredibly welcome by the staff. It was wonderful to not only be allowed to bring dogs for our break but for them to be actively welcomed. We both felt very well looked after and I am sure if our pups could leave a nice review too, they would! Can't wait to go back next year!

Excellent service, food, room, and atmosphere - highly recommended!

Overall very nice. Bedroom very small but better furniture placement could help with that.  Room felt a bit dungeon like with the high windows.  Bath tub needed re-grouting and a non-slip bath mat should be made available. Cobwebs on front door weren’t too welcoming.   Just a little shabby overall.  Location wonderful.  Relaxing and peaceful.  And the fish and chips were just not good :-(
