Fabulous food ! Excellent service .. can't wait to return . Everything was perfect 
Really enjoyed the Tempura Prawns, really crispy and light, served with a lovely salad 
Main was beautifully cooked too . 

We were walking Hadrians wall when we were badly let down by the host of Heddon lodge and we had to find alternative accommodation after 17miles walking. Luckily for us we managed to get booked into the Ship Inn and we were so glad we did. Lovely hosts and nice rooms. There is a bistro just across the road for breakfast. We would definitely recommend a short detour to stay here rather than Heddon (definitely not Heddon lodge) and it’s an easy walk to the trail and to the river.

Very comfortable stay at the Ship. Lovely room and hosts. Good location to access the last stage of the Hadrians Wall walk and the Tyne. Clean, spacious, well equipped and well appointed room. Thank you for making our last night on the wall walk comfortable.

Outstanding hospitality, the facilities and bedrooms are 5 Star. The Resturant food and staff are worthy of a location in central London. Professional, Friendly and Highly Attentive.

The Chef and Kitchen Brigade’s talent speaks for itself when your food arrives at the table. 

The Atmosphere in the Bar is homely and welcoming, from the minute we walked into the pub until the second we left we were made to feel not only as locals but part of the landlords & landlady’s family..!

We were there over Hogmanay and New Year’s Day and the entertainment over the two nights were amazing, an ecliptic array of old and new, what a celebration of local young musical talent..! 

This facility has to be on your bucket list if your planning a visit to Northumberland, far enough away from Newcastle to have a remote countryside feeling, yet close enough to the city for an away day or even a night out at the Quay Side…!!!

The Ship Inn, a real English Public House..! 



The Ship Inn was recommended by our hosts at Wormald House for dinner. Dinner and drinks were all excellent, including dessert.  Was a wonderful, relaxing meal after our first day of walking from Newcastle. Staff were helpful and attentive.

Just off the Hadrian’s wall path but a lovely place to stay staff friendly and rooms are comfortable and clean and the food is perfect with a lovely breakfast I would definitely stay again and it’s worth walking the mile off path

Fantastic service and food for 13 people who all had a great time whilst staying safe and social distancing. 
The room was brilliant for the one member of the group who stayed and the staff were very friendly and efficient. We will certainly be recommending the Ship to our friends and family.

The rooms are well cared for, simple, and clean.  Bathrooms were updated.  The Pub is very nice, but the food stole the show.  I was surprised by the quality of the included breakfast and the dinner.  The best was the Korean chicken (bone in).  My wife said the porridge and sticky-toffee pudding were the best ever.  Park in back was adequate.

I stayed here as I was working near by.  I received a wonderful welcome and was soon shown to my room.  Everywhere was very clean and comfortable with the room having everything I needed.  I was offered a table reservation upon checking in so only had to go downstairs for breakfast.  The food (including breakfast) was amazing and I was disappointed once I had finished.  All of the staff were very helpful and could not have done any more to help me.  I am so glad that I stayed at an individual hotel rather than a chain.

This is a fabulous pub with great rooms that have been refurbished in the last year. Outstanding food with lovely, friendly staff

The pea and mint risotto was very good!  A great chef!!

And I really liked the Hadrians Wall Gin.

Stayed at the Ship Inn on Day 5 of my West to East walk along Hadrian's Wall, Was surprised to find that the pub and restaurant are both closed on Mondays and Tuesdays ( i was staying on a Monday night) ,  I was met and checked in  by Michelle who was helpful and explained alternative venues for meals The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet, I would be happy to  stay again (maybe on a night that the restaurant is open)

A True Jewel In Northumberland

After initially planning to eat somewhere in Newcastle City Centre I decided to see if I could book a table here after seeing a post on a friends’ Instagram which left me daydreaming about the scotch egg!

I spoke to Michael and easily booked a table that day for 2pm. This was our first visit and the atmosphere was lovely. It was quiet and cosy and the waitresses were all friendly and chatty. 

The food was delicious. Simple food but done so well and everything tasted so fresh. 

The pate was so light and the date & walnut bread was amazing. The scotch eggs did not disappoint at all and the homemade brown sauce was to die for! My partner had the burger & said it was one of the best he’d ever had.

Thanks to the Ship Inn for a great experience, can’t wait to come back :)

Saturday Afternoon Run Out 

Best example of an English small town Inn over a pub

I did not want to leave

Booked the Ship for an overnight stay with friends as we were attending a wedding in the area. The room was tidy and clean, the meal we had was a notch above your typical pub food, restaurant quality served by pleasant staff, Ruby the pub dog is a beauty and loved to come and say hello with her ball. Breakfast was equally as good! Highly recommended only slight complaint was from my wife “no hair dryer” in the room.
