Swarthmoor Hall

We were extremely privileged to be the first guests renting a cottage after major works meant the cottages were closed. As four women ‘of a certain age’, comfort is very important to us and staying in the Wansfell Suite, with 4 bedrooms (each with its own bathroom which is most unusual in cottage hire or Airbnb) and very comfortable, 5 star hotel quality beds. Along with the usual towels, lovely bathrobes were provided which we were very pleased with! The communal kitchen and sitting room downstairs, with direct access to the gardens, provided us with plenty of room and comfortable chairs and sofas on which to lounge & natter while enjoying a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. We loved being able to enjoy the beautiful gardens and the meadow which when we were there were at peak purple crocus bloom. The facilities were spotless and we appreciated the small touches such as the ample washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea bags, jams and honey. It was wonderful to wake up to bird song and the babbling brook. As we didn’t have a car, we appreciated that the Hall is only a 12 minute walk via the path through the fields. We found the local taxis very easy to use at nighttime when we needed a lift back from dinner or the pub. We would highly recommend these beautiful and well looked after cottages for everyone wanting a base from which to explore Ulverston.
