Intercontinental Edinburgh the George

I stayed at the Interconti Edinburgh for four nights in mid-April. I was accompanying my elderly mother on a family-related trip. I wanted a premium hotel that was just a short walk to the main sights in the New Town (you can walk to the castle in about 25 mins or so if you don't mind walking uphill). This hotel was perfect. It's very smart inside - it must have been newly opened or refurbished in the last few years. I booked two Premium rooms - we both got a complimentary upgrade to Premium King. The rooms were large enough for what we needed, well appointed and not the standard soulless corporate hotel type of rooms. My only complaint about our rooms was that we were on the first floor and there was some early morning street noise from deliveries, which began around 5am or so on a couple of mornings. Breakfast was excellent in terms of choice and quality, my only small complaint is that breakfast doesn't open until 07:00 (I would have thought 06:30 would be more usual for a hotel like this, if I were a business traveller it could be annoying although there in-room breakast is available from 06:30). We didn't dine in the hotel in the evening, I regret not giving the hotel restaurant a try in hindsight. The hotel staff were all lovely - very professional and welcoming. The gym is small, with just a handful of cardio machines. I booked the rooms on a 100% pre-paid/ non-changeable and non-refundable rate including breakfast and it worked out at about £250 per room per night all in, which was an absolute bargain for what we got (and that's without considering the upgrade). If I were travelling to Edinburgh again I would book here without a moment's hesitation.
