Windmill House

This was our third stay here in15 years so we must like it! Beautifully furnished in a quiet neighborhood, the rooms are spacious and airy. The full Scottish breakfast is very good but does not vary from morning to morning. It can be a pleasant 30 minute walk along the Waters of Leith pathway but there was construction underway and this made it an hour walk so we used the taxi more frequently. My only complaint is that the owner held our reservation with a Visa and then asked for cash on our departure. This was nowhere in our several emails before our trip. He was kind enough to drive us(twice to the ATM because of the limitation on the amount of cash withdrawal-once for me and my card and again for my wife and her card) but this was awkward and an unnecessary delay.

Windmill House is a fabulous B&B, a gem in Endinburgh, short distance from the airport, little far out of town, a green island. Easy bus connections to the city. The Georgian house is simply beautiful, very well equipped. The rooms are luxurious and big, not to be compared with standard B&B rooms. Each room is individually designed, for instance there is a blue room and a red room. The same is true for the en-suite bath rooms, lots of space, well equipped. The breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room, which was just another example of the elegant style of the house. Food preferences were no problem at all, fruits were really fresh, directly from the garden.
Free wi-fi was available in the lobby. Windmill House has its price, but it's worth it. 
It's your ideal choice if you prefer the privacy of a truly individual B&B without missing the comfort of a great hotel.

We have delighted in the company of Michael and Vivian Scott and their lovely property.  We have stayed with them on two occasions; once as an entire family and again just the two of us.

The Scotts are gracious hosts and the rooms are large and beautifully furnished.   We love the walk into downtown Edinburgh along the river path.  The only downside is that the property is difficult for taxi drivers to find, at least the first time we were there!

This is a great place to stay. Rooms are large and luxurious in quite a stunning house.
Most taxi drivers don't know of it.
Within easy walking distance to Murrayfield stadium, and a good walk to Royal Mile/Princes Street.
Breakfast was good, but not sure it was worth the extra £15 each, but that could have been to do with it being Rugby weekend.
Many antique condiment pieces adorning the table to keep you amused.

When you stay guess how old the house actually is!!

Surprising hideaway

My husband and I stayed here over the rugby weekend.  It was a lovely house set in a very quiet corner of Edinburgh.  I expected to be "wowed" as it was £150 a night for room only, an extra £15 a head for breakfast!   Sadly I feel for that money it was just not worth it!!  I got up at 5 am to use the bathroom, the radiator in bathroom was so hot!  What a complete waste of energy!  I hope you have not won any green tourism awards!  When I went to dry my hair in the morning there was no dressing table with a plug point and mirror, just a simple thing!  No lock on door.  It was a nice room but way overpriced.  Once we checked out we went down to the main road where we had a lovely breakfast, £11 for the two of us.  And checking out, we had to go and find someone.  Overall, 5/10.
