34 reviewsJust think a moment. The Georgians are rightly applauded for their fine, beautifully proportioned architecture. They built 4,5 storey buildings but strangely omitted to fit lifts or escalators! The Merchant House needs to be approached with an open mind. It is conveniently situated in the centre of old Dysart with some parking spaces( on street parking also available), close to a small supermarket and a very good Chinese takeaway just round the corner, but more importantly, just 5 minutes walk from the spectacular harbour,old houses of Pan Ha' and the amazing Ravenscraig Park- great for dogs.The fantastic Harbourmaster's Cafe Restaurant is a " must visit". We had a couple of stairs down to our room and- shock horror- a shared bathroom! which was spotless as was the room and closer to my bed than our bathroom at home! We didn't se anyone else use it whilst we were there. The bed was very comfortable and the TV had a wide range of channels. There was a sink with tons of hot water,a fridge,microwave, kettle , tea and coffee beside the back entrance. We were told that breakfast was not available, but the Chinese lady who doesn't speak much English gave us fresh milk, packets of cereal and wrapper choc au pain rolls. There was a nice, small patio ar the back: we sat at the table and chairs to eat our Chinese takeaway food. The lady is very proud of her little garden and gave my wife a plant from it. A Travelodge or Premier Inn this is not, but for those willing to think out of the box, this provides comfortable accommodation in a brilliant location for an extremely reasonable price.
