Great staff. Really good place for exploring nearby and the Beacons. Good base. Great food and insanely good prices. Will be back

Not a lot to see within walking distance of the hotel but a good base to explore the Brecon Beacons and the Welsh valleys.

Great value for money, quirky but  dated property but staff are lovely.Food is great and excellent value

The room and staff were so lovely. As I wasn’t from round the area and I was alone I had no clue where to go etc and the staff were so supportive with helping me.

Perfect stay with great breakfast and very reasonable evening meals.

The property was clean and tidy it was lovely and safe

Lovely little pub not far out of Merthyr Tydfil and a 20 minute drive from Pen y fan. The double room was small but cosy for one and the was a good shower and plenty of tea. Service was excellent, with a warm welcome and useful information. I was there for two nights and the room wasn't refreshed but this wasn't a problem for me. Breakfast was excellent and there is a great selection of for for dinner in the pub for great prices.

Cosy base in the hills

My partner and myself had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly , polite and professional , with nothing being too much trouble. The venue itself is  on a hill with lovely view of the surrounding fields. It has a olde worlde feel with beautiful oak beams as part of its pub features and brass adornments on the wall.   The bedrooms are clean and inviting  with full tea and coffee making facilities , TV and shower and we had a good night's sleep waking up refreshed in the morning. . We partook of their dining facilities the night we checked in ,, having an evening meal , their menu choices were excellent including venison and rabbit dishes to  name but two and the food was mouthwatering and delicious . Their prices are very competitive providing value for money We also ordered drinks with a pint of Ale and a cider coming to under £6 a round. .Morning breakfast which is included in the price had a good choice of cereals , toast , cooked breakfast , coffee, tea, orange juice , we opted for cooked breakfast and coffee and were not disappointed. Checking out was as easy and effortless as checking in we simply handed the  key back . It is the second time we have stayed at the Rhymney hotel and we have plans to stay again in the not too distant future

Rhymney hotel a hidden gem

The hotel exceeded our expectations, we didn't expect 4-5 star service from the budget hotel with such low price, and we read through the previous reviews, so we really expected an old traditional place rather than modern network hotels. However it was better than in the reviews. The hosts are very kind and helpful, the breakfasts and dinners were excellent. It's incredible how 1 woman can cook so many delicious meals for guests. The owners are such hardworking people! The room was very clean. So actually for this low price we got a clean room, hot water, cosy bed, delicious British breakfast. The only drawback was the internet speed, it was very slow, but we stopped there for the hiking and exploring nature, so low internet speed could be a part of the whole plan to get rest of city civilisation. It was a bit chilly in the room but we asked the owner and he immediately brought us an additional heater, we didn't turn it on though because it wasn't that bad.

We stayed here on a motorcycling trip across Wales. What a lovely family run place. The building is old and lovely. The bar and restaurant are cosy and there are great beers on tap. The food was excellent. All home cooked. And we thought it was great value. Don’t expect state of the art rooms as the building is listed. B it you can expect charm and a lovely welcome by the really nice people who run it.

A wonderful hospitable hotel

Stayed as part of the business trip in the areaThe look of the place is a very 70s looking traditional countryside pub and hotel which gave a unique character to the placeThe staff were amazing and incredibly helpful and looked after us nothing  was any trouble at allWould definitely stay again for a business trip

Ideal for a business trip

We stayed for two nights and had breakfast and evening meals.  Amazing menu - from standard chicken and chips to more exotic venison steaks.  The staff at this family-run hotel really went out of their way to ensure we had a happy and comfortable stay.  We hope to visit again in the not-too-distant future!

Wonderful Welsh Welcome

Found this lovely Inn/hotel for a night's stay near Abergavenny. Ann and Tony were super friendly and the whole place has a lovely homely feel. Someone on Booking.com said the rooms were 'tired' - well perhaps but I'd prefer to say they have an old charm, a little faded at the corners maybe. If you like spanking new, this is not for you - but it was all genuine, everything was comfortable and clean and we had a really good night's sleep.

What really stood out, apart from the friendliness and warmth was the menu. I'm veggie, my daughter is vegan, and my partner is a whole mixture! And there was a truly extensive menu for all of us. Extraordinary in a pub setting. A lot of the dishes were traditional pub fare, but with a load of vegan options - and all home cooked. Wonderful - and really delicious!

Superb friendly team, Tony and Donna couldn’t do enough for you! Fabulous price with a great cooked brekkie thrown in ! Evening meal Specials board amazing! Ok it is old and very creaky,  it’s in need of a re vamp, but why would you ?! That would change the entire character of the hotel! It was clean, comfy beds, hot shower - can’t ask for more for a night stop from London before the Brecon Beacons walk xx

Honestly cannot say enough about how lovely this place was. Very homely, down to earth and a proper pub! 
Lovely staff & friendly locals! Brilliant food! All freshly prepared, proper home cooked food and the menu is huge!!! 
Probably the most attentive hotel I have ever stayed in, nothing was too much trouble! 
We definitely want to come back!!

A welsh Gem!

Right around the corner from where I work I was looking for something cosy, warm and some character. Not to mention east parking so I gave Rhymney hotel a go. 
Sure the building is old and some parts show it BUT a warm welcome was there despite the owners being in the middle of a big “do”. 
The room is basic but warm and clean. Maybe a little touch up here and there yet given the price, location, warm room and decent shower you can’t complain. 
Primarily i chose somewhere local so I could get food and not have to drive somewhere and I wasn’t disappointed. Order the game pie and, if that’s your thing, you won’t be disappointed.
