Just a one night stay but very comfortable and clean with friendly staff.  Very comfortable, well equipped bedrooms with nice bedding, towels and cosmetics.
Nice dining room and bar.   Excellent breakfast.
All good value - will be back.

The Seven Stars, located in Shincliffe village  1.5 miles outside of  the magnificent University and  Cathedral City of Durham,  is a converted 18th century coaching inn. If you like quaint it is a little gem. My wife and I stayed there recently in preference to staying in one of the large plastic palaces that constitute most  modern hotel chains. On the ground floor there is a traditional pub  lounge   and  three  dining areas, one of which is set up for  private dining. The residential area is on the first floor and is  accessed by a steep and narrow staircase. Our en suite room was large, clean, warm and comfortable. It was tastefully decorated and there were  tea/coffee making facilities as well as free wifi.. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful as were the locals in the bar and restaurant, making for a most conviviable atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed it. There is no carpark but  we had no difficulty finding free on street  parking. Outside there is a nearby bus stop into town though it is possible to walk into the City centre along  the river. We would definitely stay there again.

What can i say other than thankyou, stayed for 2 nights with breakfast each morning. From the moment i checked in the welcome was very friendly and shown to my room. All the staff i met were very professional and friendly and am already looking forward to visiting again in the not so distant future.

I recently stayed here as a single booking but would like to return with my partner. Note that it has recently been taken over by new management who keep the inn in a very nice state. The room I had was at the front of the hotel which was subject to slightly more road noise than those on the High Street, nevertheless this didn't present a problem. I did not hear any noise from other guests and there was no music while I was there. The restaurant is very good and saves a trip back into Durham. There is another pub not far away to eat if you want a change but I didn't check that out. The walk along the river into Durham is very pleasant and not strenuous. I wish the new owners all the best and look forward to returning with my partner.

I took my Mam and Aunt for Sunday lunch, their both octogenarians and the lady who looked after us was excellent.
I’m sorry I never caught her name but she looked after us as if they were her relations.
Will definitely be back.

Family weekend away and stayed here.  Food is excellent and the rooms are really nice.  Staffs hospitality is brilliant and they are all really friendly.  This is our second time at this hotel. Thank you all for a lovely weekend 

We visited the Seven Stars on our way to a rugby match at Durham City (down the road). The menu is very interesting and the food was delicious, generous and piping hot. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar, although there is also a restaurant.  Very helpful and pleasant staff.  We really enjoyed ourselves and will be thinking of an excuse to visit Durham again soon!

Stayed here overnight. On arrival, I received a friendly welcome and was shown to a comfortable room with a clean en-suite shower room. The restaurant is popular and although the inn was almost full, I didn't find my room noisy at all. The room was spacious, clean and fairly comfortable. The bed was a bit lumpy but I slept well enough. The room I had faced onto a busy road, and there was a lot of traffic noise, so I had to sleep with the window closed. Other than this little issue, it was a very enjoyable visit and I'd definitely stay here again.

This was a quick overnight stay which was reasonably cheap with breakfast but, it ticked all the boxes. The beer was excellent in the bar and breakfast simple but, nice. It is located just off the A1 and very close to Durham centre.

Really liked the pub/ restaurant area, but it was So cold that I kept my coat on throughout my meal. Very off putting. There could be roaring real fires that would give a much better feel. 

Food was good pub food although the gluten free vegetarian tagine was a little boring.

Would not rush back because of the cold!
