Culgruff House is absolutely stunning. It has recently been refurbished and the new owners have taken such great attention to every little detail. It really is a home away from home, a totally idyllic place to relax and restore. 

The owners could not have been more welcoming or friendly. They have everything you could ever need, and more. Culgruff House is one of a kind, amidst gorgeous grounds in rural Scotland. The views are simply stunning, surrounded by woodland, wildlife and overlooking a beautiful river. 

The interior is gorgeous, you can tell a lot of time and thought has been put into the design of this guest house. It has several large, stunning bedrooms, ensuites, and other amenities. Each one unique with modern & rustic character. 

I can't wait to return to Culgruff House, the perfect destination for relaxation. 

Loved the place very old excellent value (at the time) peacocks we’re running around outside.The owner worked very hard. Just loved the old ness of it all. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea! 
Would love too visit again. Surrounding area is lovely.

The lodge is an amazing Victorian hunting lodge, long neglected and being restored bit by bit. Carole was welcoming and recognised our interest in the building's history so gave us information about the lodge and showed us some of the original features "below stairs" including the bells and buzzers to call the servants. She also allowed us to peak in a number of rooms which had just been vacated one morning and showed us one of the original rooms which has yet to be restored.

They currently have just 7 rooms, but the aim is to increase to 16 room within 2 years by refurbishing the second floor.

There is still a lot of work to do on the fabric of the building, such as installing double glazing in most areas, but the public areas and usable bedrooms have been carefully restored and the house is abundant with dark wood panelling, fancy plaster ceilings and hunting trophies.

Bathrooms are modern with en suite showers, except the budget double which has a private bathroom/toilet across the corridor, but no shower apart from the hand held fitting over the bath.

Most of the rooms are big, The Snug is the smallest, but still perfectly adequate with room to move about and to store one's belongings.

The beds were the most comfortable of any hotel in which I have stayed for a very long time, which was a very welcome surprise.

The place is very quiet and we watched bats flying around the grounds and listened to the owls hooting in the dusk. There is little or no phone signal, but they have free WiFi.

We ate in the restaurant one evening, which was their supper club night. This was a set menu, but they were happy to adapt it for me as I don't eat red meat, the alternatives were very tasty. We were happy with the meal. The hotel is not licensed, so you need to byo drinks,they will provide ice buckets for wine and chill beer for you.

Breakfast saw a decent choice of hot options, but it needed to be ordered the evening beforehand. There was also juice, cereal, yoghurt and fresh fruit salad available to which to help yourself in the dining room.

If you like to stay somewhere with a bit of history, this is a great choice, if you want to be in the centre of things, forget it, it is a car ride from anywhere, except tiny Crossmichael which has 1 pub and a small shop and it's still about a mile downhill from the hotel to the village.

It's a bit quirky and still needs work to bring it back to its former glory, but we really enjoyed our stay and the welcome and friendliness of the staff was lovely.

The perfect destination for relaxation! 

Beautiful Old Hunting Lodge

Visited here a few years back

Booked here for a night on our way back from a trip to Northern Ireland. GPS took us on a wild goose chase but finally found the property! Nice old property but looks in need of some tlc. Staff were very friendly and room was very nice and comfortable. Dinner was nice too as was breakfast and service was great. Hope they can continue to make this a great place.

Nice spot but hard to find!

Having made a booking in November 2015 for a three night stay in February 2016, we arrived on the day we were due to check in to find the access gates closed with a "private road" sign. A passer-by informed us that the hotel was no longer operating, following the death of the owner in December 2015.
