Harrington House

When booking the Harrington House, I had some confusion. The details seemed different than hotels I've stayed in the past. It wasn't until arrival that I learned: HF Holidays is a Christian fellowship organization, not a boutique hotel or chain hotel. They specialize in catering to a retired demographic and providing social activities and they do that very well. I had no idea until dinner the first night. Upon arrival we were greeted with tea and a meet and greet, one of many social events. Breakfast is social and dinner is served at 7pm with shared tables. Lunch is a packed lunch to be eaten at the visited sites. Upon arrival, you fill out your lunch choices as well as dinner for each day. The food was excellent and generous (I ordered half portions and it was still generous). The in-house bar opens around 5pm and runs during dinner. There are activities after dinner like trivia and bingo. The quiet hours start rather early. For a younger crowd, there are a handful pubs within walking distance and two that stay open late(12pm). The hotel does have a door code so guests can enter around that time without waking the night manager. The staff were personable and professional. The property and location are beautiful. Alastair, our tour guide was the best. The people we met and shared meals with were kind. All transportation was arranged for us which was a major bonus. We wouldn't have been able to explore the area without that bonus. The sites we visited were all fantastic. While surprised upon arrival, we did enjoy our stay and felt welcomed.
