YHA Cheddar

I spent a couple of nights at YHA Cheddar. My room was small, but comfortable and very clean. The showers were just a few doors away and were also spotlessly clean. The hostel was run to a very high standard. There are two buildings and my room was in the annex across the carpark, from the main reception. The reception ladies were lovely, helpful, informative and friendly. True to YHA standards. It is located about 10 minutes brisk walk from Cheddar Gorge and about 5 minutes cycle ride from the start of the' Strawberry Line', which was recommended to me by the reception lady on my second day. It is a disused railway line running from Cheddar heading North to Yatton ( About 20 miles return trip, but there are places where you can peel off the track for refreshments. Quite an easy ride, with not too many hilly bits and it is very much still a railway track, with the old platforms still there along the route and one very long dark tunnel to ride through ( Very Spooky ! ) . Cheddar Gorge, which is just up the road is a challenge, if you like walking up hills though ! The view from the top is well worth all the pain !! Cheddar Youth Hostel is in a perfect location and is very well run. I stayed just two nights and I wish I could have stayed for longer. Well done to all the staff there for keeping the YHA standards flying high and thank you for a fantastic stay. I really enjoyed it.
