We spent a weekend away on the Isle of Wight, staying at the Mount House. We found the accommodation charming and very comfortable. Graham was very helpful and gave us good advice on places to visit and recommendations for restaurants in and about Shanklin.

The hotel is about 8 minutes walk from the centre of town and within easy reach of local amenities. I enjoyed the English breakfasts each morning. My wife would have preferred a selection of fruits and yogurts had these been available.

Highly recommended, would certainly go back.



We stayed here for two nights. The room was small but fine for 2 nights, and the bed was comfortable which is important to us. The location is peaceful so there was no road noise during the night. The room was clean and had the added bonus of tea/coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. There was a toilet and shower in our room and a bathroom in the corridor just outside our room. We were put in room 8 which allowed us to keep an eye on our motorcycle which was parked outside in the little parking area. Breakfast was good; a few cereals to choose from and the option of full English breakfast if you wish.  The owners Sally and Graham are nice. Yes Graham is chatty but he is only trying to be helpful by mentioning local attractions and to be honest, we enjoyed listening to his stories. We would return to this B & B if we ever visit the IOW again.

Homely B&B just outside the main centre of Shanklin.Spotlessly clean and excellent breakfast. Was a little puzzled that the accommodation was fully booked after I had made my booking, but for three nights I was the only guest. Did get upgraded to a double room though.Found Graham, the owners,constant anecdotes a little trying and would have preferred a more discrete presence .Probably accommodation best suited to more mature guests.

Worth a look

Perfect break in Shanklin

Lovely, very comfortable room & great breakfast, which would have been all the more enjoyable if the landlord hadn't remained in the room talking the whole time while we ate! To the extent that he forgot about my partners coffee! (I am sure he is a very nice man, but his constant chatter was very off putting)
It is the only thing that will prevent us using this B & B again.

Boring Landlord

This B&B served its purpose for our short trip and I'm not saying I wouldn't return however it isn't the best B&B we've stayed at. 
Positives - Good location. Well placed for beach, town and train station.   Parking available.   Freshly cooked breakfast.   Rooms well stocked e.g hairdryer, some toiletries, Tea/coffee.   Very comfy bed.
Not so positive - Decor and amenities VERY dated (I felt as though I'd returned to the early 80s).   Very small bathroom.   Bedroom small (we'd travelled very light but if we'd had suitcases I'm not sure where we'd have stored them).   Owner doesn't allow much personal space and constantly around (this sounds very mean but when having breakfast with friends and family and trying to plan the day ahead he was constantly butting in; I note some people have said informative, this was not always our experience and it did became a bit of a pest).   I wouldn't consider the rooms to be spotless.

As previously said, this place served its purpose but there is a lot of competition around.  A friend stayed at a nearby B&B and the difference was immense for no more cost.
