Mantra Place

When discussing this review with my partner, the only thing we had negative to say about this accommodation was the hard mattress. But that's the same in 99% of Asia and so not really fair to mark it down because of it. Around a 10 minute walk from the Old City's South gate this Guesthouse is located in a nice area that we felt safe walking to and from at night as well as in the daytime. The room was spacious, clean and had the basic amenities such as a fridge, a/c, tv (not that we turned it on) and a hot shower. No safety deposit box in the room but you could put your own additional padlock on the outside of the door when you went out which added to the already very good security for the building (key card entry and night guard when concierge was not there). The concierge (Swit) is very friendly, speaks very good English and was very helpful during our stay, he lives on site so if there are any issues he is never far away. There are cheaper guest houses in Chiang Mai but we have heard differing reviews from other travellers about cleanliness and security, for a couple this works out at £5 each per night which I honestly don't think you can beat for the standard provided. I would say book a few days in advance as the day we left Swit had to turn a couple who turned up hoping for a room away as the guesthouse was already fully booked.
