Hold Me Hotel Zhongzheng

First, note that all sources other than Tripadvisor list this hotel as "H.M. Hotel" not "Hold Me Hotel." It is marked as "H.M. Hotel" on maps as well. The hotel occupies the 11th and 12th floors of a nondescript office building. The hotel is firmly 3-star, meaning that it has 24 hour desk service, breakfast, English speaking staff, etc., but not business or concierge services. One of the other reviews says that it "smells" ... this is pretty typical for 3-star hotels in Asia. My room was very slightly musty. I opened the window. The hotel has recently been renovated with new furniture and bedding sprucing up a somewhat run-down building. Note that the hotel is in Hsinchu City, not Hsinchu County and is within walking distance of the Hsinchu train station, not the Hsinchu high speed rail station. On the Hsinchu City tourist map the hotel is easily found: look for the "05" market in the middle of the map. The hotel is next door to the Hsinchu City Fire Museum and across the street from and slightly north of Hsinchu City Hall, a Japanese-era landmark building. The hotel is fantastically located for Hsinchu City tourism, a few blocks from the East Gate landmark, a major shopping center, cafes and restaurants, etc. It's about a 15 minute walk from the (slow) train station. The hotel internet is fast and robust, with both wireless and wired service available. My only real complaint is that the hotel has adopted the now-fashionable approach of having a shower with no shower curtain, letting the water get all over the tiled bathroom floor to be wiped up later. I can't stand this but it's more and more common, I suppose because it's easier to clean. Otherwise the bathroom as fine -- though not wheelchair accessible. Overall, I was very happy with my stay, especially considering the low price.
