Islet Inn is a very nice little hostel in taiwan! I actually booked a bed in a 4bed dorm but I got a double room instead (think because it was available), what was really nice. The room was comfortable, comfy and very clean. You got everything you needed. It is a tiny bit far from the center but you can borrow a bycicle FOR FREE and of course i took the chance.
Chloe and Mumu made my stay perfect. They answered every question i had and were so friendly and lovely. If you ever go to nantou, i only can recommend you Islet Inn!

One of the best Hostel i've been too!

I and members of the journey have plan for Sun Moon Lake and visit the Aborigin tribe for so long.The chances come when one of my member invited to give a talk at Chi Nan University Puli.

we took cab from Taichung to Puli in less 1hours charged NTD 1500( usually NTD 840 if  take it from THSR station).

the location is about 1-2km from Puli Township drop point but you may ask to stop at Mc Donald-Carrefour where the hotel is just on left junction(still need to walk about 500-800m).

Free bicycle ride at any time.you may go mc D or local food outlet distance about 1-2km.main road not very busy and the people are so friendly to help.

operator are IT savvy and really informative and helpful.she is so fluent in english and mandarin, no problem at all.

Homestay surround by bamboo water farm

This Hotel room are nice and clean, have a Kara OK room for the visitors, also equipped with a big parking lot easy to park and it's free. Public Washing Machine, Public Refrigerator, Very suitable for the solo traveler or family trip.

Hotel room are clean, big parking lot, Good country air.

Stayed there few days ago, place was a bit far from the center of Puli in some farm area so you kind of need to walk for 10 mins to get back to the town.

The host was nice, gave me a map of Puli with POI marked on it. They also had bicycles that they lend you for free, but the bicycles weren't exactly in a very well-maintained state.

Didn't exactly meet a lot of "youth" in the hostel, mostly some older friends.

Loads of mosquitoes, but coulnd't expect too much as the place is in some rural-ish area. Mosquitoes didn't get into my room tho, so it was OK. Room was spacious, even got a TV despite the bad TV signal.

Overall a fair place to stay.

A fair hostel in Puli

I cancelled the last 2 days of this booking at Islet Inn.
They gave me my refund for two nights but only after trying to scam me over the deposit. 
It was a very small amount but the fact that they tried made me angry and thought hostels.com should know.  They claim they don't get it but I know it was already paid on my credit card.

This is not Hostels.coms fault at all and I have been using their site for ages without any issues or problems.

There were many problems with the hostel in general which is why I switched:

1.) Wifi doesn't work in any rooms and barely works in common area.
2.) Common area: 
Couch - dirty, old, smokey, generally disgusting.
Tables: tablecloths dirty and unwashed with small fruit flies everywhere
The area is crowded with many things so it is full of clutter, e.g. Boxes of old kids toys,
Karaoke, ping pong, screen for movies, Tv and more table games just messy and disorganized
Recreation area should be separate. Also screen covers weird common bathrooms which don't have real doors so you can hear everything - unpleasant when you're having a coffee or dinner. 
And more clutter of towels and junk near there.
3.) Rooms: 
No top sheet only a heavy blanket, who knows how often they are cleaned.
It smelled ok but everywhere has a top sheet.
The walls are paper thin, you here everything. I could hear my neighbors in the
Toilet and babies screaming, really awful. And this was after the Chinese New Year!
No wifi again.
Not an eco-friendly place, when I returned home my light was on, a fan was running, 
They don't seem to care in general.
4.) Staff, hmmm, I tried so hard but they just confuse you and are quite unhelpful.

Even got a good rating. From the start there was a lot of huffing and puffing when asking about
Buses and they didn't even know some of the local roads on my map. They 
Did give me a tip but what started as a 40 minute bus ride turned to 1 1/2 hours so
The original info was wrong and didn't go to the place. In fact, I could just find the info myself
If the wifi worked properly. So to stay a bit out of town for the peace and quiet and local flavor was
Totally not worth it as I knew more than them about the area. Even simple questions about SunmoonLake they managed  to get wrong as I found out after going there :-(
I don't think they know what they're doing and mom and dad paid for it.
Who live there and add to the stinky smoke.
5.) BBQ was dirty with garbage in it. You must pay them a fee to use it. (Then 
Of course buy charcoal and food) They said they would give plates but it was too dirty and located near the front parking lot and the families house which is noisy and smokey.

The noise in general and everywhere was over the top, from rooms to common area.
And very uncomfortable seating. And this was a weekday after Chinese New Year!

I hope you don't recommend them and change their rating. No way! Not even close to a 5.
