Good location - close to the main sites and the railway station. Simple but comfortable rooms. Kitchen is a bit small, but enough if you cook something simple. Friendly and helpful staff. Even though reception is not open all the time, just tell them what time you will arrive, and they will leave the key in the hotel across (Hotel Älgen).

This was the cheapest option we found for an overnight stay in the city on our way down to Stockholm. The room had 2 single beds, looked clean and welcoming for someone who had spent all day stuck in a train. Location is as central as it can get. Out of hours check-in had clear and easy-to-follow instructions. Showers were spacious and modern. Small kitchen area with basic equipment was available but we didn't get to use it as we only stayed briefly. Checking-out we found people for the first time, all completed rather quickly and we left our luggage in a spare room until reception closing time at 4PM.
Overall, a simple Pensionat but with fair prices and there was nothing we really missed during our short stay.

Had to overnight in Östersund on my trip to the northern of Sweden. Made my decision on Björnen simply according to budget. A single room for 450 SEK seemed like the best price i could get. Allthough the common area of the hostel is pretty worn and torn, 450 is cheap in Sweden, the room was splendid. The breakfast included is also nice, not crazy Swedish hotel breakfast, but more than enough. A nice stay to an affordable price. And the location is pretty good with the lake and the city centre close to this location.

Stayed for one night in June on my way north as the weather for camping was too wet and unpredictable. Very friendly staff and easy check-in - 450K with full breakfast. Rom had two single beds, private bathroom and toilet and lobby area on the ground floor - ideal.

Dirty and disgusting kitchen that made one feel sick and not want to touch either kitchen cabinet doors, knobs, handles, drawers. Even the walls were dirty with spills and other things. Filthy also in the rest of the apartment. A pig sty. 
Was up for 1 hour without socks and shoes on the first day and all “black” under my feet with dirt.
Mold in the fridge was taken care of, the dirty freezer compartment was not cleaned. Worn utensils(some of them unusable) in the kitchen. Partially replaced, but extremely reluctantly. Did not fix broken lamp.
When the dirt was not completely fixed and I complained again, the staff became rude. I asked to speak to the hotel manager but was refused.
TV channels were completely missing and were not fixed either. A TV search came up with no channels at all available. Everything was extremely reluctant and they were not interested in satisfied guests. Still expecting one to accept living in a pig sty and pay expensively for it. The free parking consists of only 4 parking spaces and 4 garage spaces for both Hotel Älgen and Pensionat Björnen to share.
The accommodation is not recommended at all. Choose something else if possible, for your own sake.
The pension is a part of (and handled by) Sure Hotel by Best Western Älgen on the opposite side of the pension.

This b&b is horrible. The rooms are dirty and haven't seen a paintstroke since the 80s, the shower, the toilet and even the kitchen was dirty and hadn't been cleaned from the last tennant before us. At a rooms price of SEK 745/night this is awful. 
We slept 2 inches above the mattress since the bed linen was stained. 
We drove 80 miles and had we had the energy to go to the other side og the street to the reception, we would have complained but we both were so worn out we almost fell asleep standing...
