White Elephant Hotel

A lovely old colonial hotel. Loads of beautiful space, huge rooms, sitting areas and a relaxed atmosphere. Our room had two double beds, complete with mosquito nets and balcony overlooking the river. Just 10 minutes walk to the start of Adam's Peak trek. We were well looked after and the food was amazing, particularly the egg breakfast served after our trek in the roof top dining room. Not plush, but if you want somewhere comfortable to stay that's a bit unusual, with great service and food, this is it. Be aware that the trek up Adam's Peak is 7km up and then another 7km back down with 5200 steps. We left at 1.30 in the morning to get up there for sunrise. There was no sunrise just mist and rain and the temple was closed! Disappointing but feeling a sense of achievement to manage the slog up and then down! Watch your knees and your calf muscles will ache! Possibly more successful in the high season.
