Golden View Rest Kandy

We stayed here several days and enjoyed it. Our room was clean, had amazing wifi and no noise. We had mosquito nets but it was not necessary. We payed 1400 LKR a night. The owner was very helpful.
Bonus: Right down by the lake we saw monitor lizards and turtles each day!

Nice place on a hill top

I stayed a few nights here. The room was basic although the hotel across the road could definitely see me showering as there was some window unobstructed. There was a hole in a window which wasn't such a bad thing letting in some fresh air. Pillow was torn. The staff were basically non existent and seemed like they didn't care, unlike every other place I have stayed in Sri Lanka 

Ok for short stay, just a room, not much more

We stayed at the Golden View in Kandy for a couple of nights in March 2016.  The room was 2000LKR per night with breakfast an additional 350LKR.  We hadn’t planned to stay there but, as we were walking past the manager asked us to look around.  On first impressions the room was fine for a couple of nights but, when you look past this then the room and bathroom were looking tired and really needed some improvements.  However, having said the bed was comfy and the room had hot water. 

We had a room on the upper floor with a balcony however, due to the building opposite (Hotel OZO) there was no view apart from into the rooms of Hotel OZO.  The Golden View is on a corner where the taxis and tuk-tuks wait so it can be noisy first thing.  It is a 15 minute walk into the centre of Kandy or a 200LKR tuk-tuk ride.

The one thing that annoyed us was the constant sales pitch that came from the manager of the Golden View with regards to trips and tours.  Every time we walked past him he was asking ‘what are you doing today or tomorrow?, I can organise a trip/tour’.   It seemed he was more interested in getting people onto his expensive tours then his guesthouse.  If you do book a tour with him, don’t take the first price he offers.  Say you will think about it and he will come back with a lower price which it better as he prices are higher than other operators.

Overall if you want a room for a night or so then this place is OK although there are better places around.

OK for a day or so

On the last leg of our journey we decided to stay at Golden View Rooms & Chinese Restaurant in Kandi. We rented two rooms and were the only ones staying here.
On departure day we asked the two employees if our ruck-sacks could be left in the hotel for a couple of hours.
This way we could stroll around, enjoying the last sounds and smells of Sri Lanka before returning to the airport in Colombo.
Back in Norway we find our field glasses and an umbrella is missing, and our tax free orange gin bottle being emptied and replaced with water and saffron.

Kandy WARNING

I stayed on OZO hotel for 3 nights from 30/10/2017 to 2/11/2017 , OZO hotel just opposite building to the golden view.  in that time i stayed on OZO, golden view was closed. I asked a tuk tuk driver, he told me that the owner closed the hotel. And he don’t know why?
