The Havelock Place Bungalow

We decided to stay at this place as it was reccomended by a person who travelled a lot. 
It rained at that night unfortunately and we noticed raindrops leaking through the ceiling to the mattress. Since we didn't wanted to trouble anyone we first moved the bed aside, but as rain got heavier it started leaking from more places. Then we informed the staff and they opened a another room for us which was not fitting for us. In the morning, when we go back to our original room we found all our baggages are wet. Only thenwe notoced the walls were stained too. It was not repaired for months. 

I really wish that they repair the room and maintain it properly hereafter.

Quite a Dissapointment!!

We stayed at this hotel for the first two nights and returned for the final night of our two-week holiday in Sri Lanka. It's a lovely little colonial style house-hotel with a cooling swimming pool and a lovely shaded garden restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Service was excellent and the location was quiet and relaxing. Very nice.

An Oasis

A gem of a hotel tucked away aff a main street but with the ambience of a country hotel, the Havelock Place Bungalow is a special place. Spacious rooms have been renovated with an eye for authenticity and comfort. The family rooms are truly delightful and open onto garden vistas. A minute swimming pool with a jacuzzi helps to combat the oppressive heat of Colombo. A friendly staff, a limited but interesting menu in the in-house restaurent and a great location makes this an easy choice.

Memories of Colonial Ceylon

I was hugely disappointed by Havelock Bungalow. The previous owners have left and standards have left with them. I've recommended this place for 20 years but either I was staggeringly unlucky (the 5-star reviews make it sound like a different place) or it has crossed the line from inviting old-style colonial to a shabby property in desperate need of love and attention. What was once an attractive resident's lounge now doubles up as an office and so is essentially unusable. The first room I was offered was the one-time garage with minimal furniture; the second was slightly better but the outside sit-out was dirty with rusting chairs. The garden restaurant is its saving grace and can be recommended. But please invest in this once glorious property and arrest its decline, or abandon your lease and leave it to somebody who will.

Desperately needs love and attention

It’s hard to believe that you can walk a few yards from a major Colombo road and be cosseted in this secret, garden hotel.
It feels like stepping back 100 years it is so unspoilt. Only air conditioning has been added and the gardens and pool are so well integrated with the building that simply sitting anywhere is a pleasure.
The staff are wonderfully enthusiastic and the food outstanding.
We particularly enjoyed the olive oil and pepper ice creams and the arrack cocktails.
We really enjoyed our stay here.

Magical

On the basis of price paid in advance, we expected a really good accommodation for our two nights in Colombo. The room was dated and ramshackle. Little attempt had been to modernise. We booked a superior room but the hand rail fell apart upon first use. Staff were asked for connection to British three pin plug but were not able to solve the problem and lost interest. The garden and pool were extremely limited. Service was poor and the dining area was dirty. On return in the evening at the end of the day, our room had not been made up. There were many apologies and an immediate response but this room was definitely not worth the price we paid and cannot be recommended.

Disappointing to say the least

We were disappointed with this hotel: the most expensive hotel in Sri Lanka (100 euros a night with breakfast) and not the best. The quality of breakfast is good but the quantities are microscopic. Pools are poorly maintained and the environment is noisy.

Very poor price ratio

It's a shame this hotel could be great. No maintenance for months or years? Painting on the walls, unhygienic bathroom. Unmaintained swimming pool. 2 dirty, tiny long chairs, spotted with bird feathers. Bad wifi. The setting is restful and the common areas are very nice. But we pay for the rooms! See you again! Bad weather, unbearable noise.

It's not worth the prize, it's not worth the maintenance!

The hotel critic, who ranked this hotel with four points, certainly added the points on his blindfold to it! On arrival we had to look for the staff. The room was depressing, the bathroom was unclean, the laundry box only worked if it had been built apart!!!!...... and this is just an excerpt from the points of criticism, thankfully we were only there one night!

Poor, at most a star

No alcohol, no beers, minimum service, the pool is more like a swimming pool, the bathtub is torn apart, I would not recommend this establishment.
