This is a very nice place. The price is low. So its good for the price. I love that you get a supermarket below. a BBQ hut on the side. This is great for low budget travelers. anyone who wants to travel on a low budget i advise this HOTEL. If you think you can pay $50 a night and expect THE Marriot, please keep scrolling.

This is in the area where peoplw actually live. On top of AKI supermarket, next to a local barbeque. Busses, cars and people in the street. Activity and life.

Very nice staff, good and priceworthy room. A bit noisy, but hey, get some earplugs and you're fine :)

I liked it!

Before going to this property i did some good research on it even thow i did not had allot of money. After looking on bookings and airbnb and more, I gave it a try and turned out great! Its highly rated on bookings.Most people love that the owners are great and very friendly always ready to help. I had a great time, I'm a solo traveler. Sint Maarten is a great island. The place is just good, i was 3 minutes from town with car. Its a bit far from simpsonbay but clos to the beaches and town.The road is a lil busy but I'm a busy guy so loved it lol. sint maarten has lots of traffic. The place is in a local area wich i like. Sint maarten has high price hotels so this was just right for me. But good for budget travelers.

The real Sint Maarten

Summer in SXM

We made our reservation through Booking.com and secured the reservation with a credit card. Booking.com failed to mention that this is a CASH ONLY establishment. The owners do not accept any electronic payments. So, we couldn't check in until we found an ATM to withdraw cash. We paid in cash and got a receipt before being led to the adjacent building's upper floor residential rooms above the AKI convenience grocery store.

Room 7 was the initial room they tried to put us in. It was next to the upper floor gate and directly above a roasted chicken street food vendor. The wonderful food odors were great, but it gets annoying late into the night (not to mention the noise generated by their party atmosphere). The countertop ledge adjacent to the bathroom constantly whacked me in the sternum and bruised me badly upon the first 5 minutes of inspecting the room. The lady from the office moved us to room 5. The keys on their keychain were not a fully functional set. Thankfully, there was a maintenance man who were able to let us out. Seems like the only entrance to the floor is through the second floor gate that must be locked. It is not safe because people can be trapped in the event of a fire. There are no fire escape and we need keys to both open and close the gate before getting to our rooms.

Walking down 2 doors, we see that room 6 is occupied by a long term renter. Its windows only face the hallway and does not have any natural lighting. Room 5 at least faced the other side of the building and has windows facing out to the exterior of the building. It smelled moldy, even more pronounced than room 7, so we immediately turned on the air conditioning unit to de-humidify and filter out the airborne irritants.

The next morning, we got a notification from Booking.com indicating our reservation was cancelled. The "clerical" error resulted in a cancellation fee of US$84 slapped on my credit card, for a stay that I had already fully pre-paid in cash upon checking in.

When we got back to the room at the end of the second night, we noticed a memo inserted under our door. It was a reminder to tell us to be eco-friendly and shut off the air conditioning unit. Not to be outdone, it was wastefully printed on 2 single sheet pages. From this point forward, we did not have any other interactions with the staff beyond this point.

I need to point out several items that are not up to code besides the obvious fire escape/security setup. The bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned from previous occupant with used soapcakes in the shower floor and soap tray. The hot water for the shower is electrically controlled from the showerhead. Changing temperatures while the water is running is not advisable because I see electrical sparks coming out of the showerhead's makeshift holder. It is held together by electrical tape, which is not waterproof, and connects to the wall's power supply. The bathroom sink is not secured to the wall and the light fixture is moved away from the overhead cabinet. The height of the cabinet is just at eye level and very dangerous to average height people. The kitchenette area has 2 electric burners and it's permanently attached to the counter. The shoddy construction for the burner is too close to running water and has potential for fire.

Normally, I know bedbug reports are vindictive retaliation on TripAdvisor. But this is my first report on the forum. Room 5 is definitely infected. My first night, I was too tired and on the first morning, I thought that was just mosquitoes biting my feet. On the second morning, the bites moved up the shin towards the knees. On the third morning, my arms and shoulders were bitten badly.

This place is a disaster waiting to happen. Nothing is up to code and I am wondering if they have their certificate of occupancy verified. OBTW, google.com is pointing to the wrong location (even with the correct address). GPS coordinates are 18°02'16.9"N 63°03'05.25"W"

Safety (fire evacuation) hazard and epic fail

If you enjoy the view of a garbage mound (the island's dump is just south of this location), don't mind bumper-to-bumper traffic on the only road that gets you there, and then are told that you must pay in CASH (as they don't accept credit cards, which was NOT mentioned on booking.com) and you desire to stay over a convenience store, next to a loud BBQ stand with the most basic living requirements, this is the place for you!

The A/C barely worked, so we left it on to come back to a cool room, putting up the "do not disturb sign".  That did not stop them from entering our room in our absence and leaving a note not to leave the A/C on when we were not there!!

The bed was a hunk of FOAM on a wood platform, not unlike a palate -- hard and lumpy.  :-(

The shower had a gizmo to warm the water for a shower, which was interesting, but obviously dangerous, as it meant having 110V ungrounded electric coming to your shower head!!  I was a bit nervous about that set-up.  Speaking of the washroom, the SCREEN DOOR for the washroom was an interesting thing which I had never seen before.

Wi-Fi was slow and undependable.

My partner woke every morning with fresh bites from his toes to his torso -- they looked like bedbug bites, but I was unaffected for some reason.
