Our Melting Pot Hostel

Very safe and secured. Cozy rooms. I stayed in the all female dorm and it was quiet, good airconditioning if you are looking for a place to rest and sleep. you'll sure to have a good rest and sleep from your travels. Very cheap but comfortable :)

My unforgettable B&B in Makati. This was my nest everytime I fly from Davao to Manila during my budget days. OMP is near everything; malls, embassies, restaurants, and etc. For its price you get a good deal of sleep, breakfast and free tour if you are done with your transactions. Majority of the guests are foreign travelers, you get to meet cool people from different sides of the world. Wifi is good, there was a power socket, light and curtain in my "bed" as I shared the room with 6 other people. If you're not fussy this is a good place to stay.

Very nice, accommodating staff and homely feeling

I have been staying at OMP for quite a while now, after moving from another nearby hostel in Makati, Manila. It is now located in Polaris Street Makati so it is a different building and layout.
In this time I have seen the hostel change - for the better – and the worse. It now has a very open, friendly feel, much improved cooking facilities (now including 2 burner gas stove, microwave and toaster – which needs upgrading), a variety of air conditioned rooms and comfortable beds.
The breakfasts are under control now and you get what they advertise - with cereal, toast, fruit, coffee/tea and smiles!
It’s a friendly place with very obliging staff (Thanks Josh, Onie, Marlo, Jerome, MayAnn, Kath, Whelma – good job guys!)
As OMP is in Makati, it is the centre of the Manila universe… close to the airport – expect a Php150-350 taxi fare from the airport depending on peak hour traffic. (With any taxi ride in Manila, always demand the meter is turned on and negotiate before you get in to the taxi – some people have been charged thousands of Pesos by the band of extortionists masquerading as taxi drivers here). Hint use Uber or Grab instead of an airport - or any, taxi! They will book these for you at the hostel.
Makati is a very interesting location with a mix of old and very new…  My advice is to go walking through the Baranguay (local area) once you have visited every fast food joint on Makati Avenue. Take a camera and a smile and talk to the locals, find a coffee shop, maybe find your way to the river and then along to PowerPlant Mall in Rockwell. 
If you want local, good food, go to the night market from 5pm… About a 10 minute walk along Makati Avenue – meals for around P100 and beer for P50 – plus excellent fruit drinks, live music and community seating where talking to locals and others is encouraged. There are maybe 13 malls within a 30 minute walk - Greenbelt (with its open air chapel, up-market shops and park-style landscaping), Glorietta and Landmark with the biggest and cheapest supermarket, - spend all day in these 3 that are joined by covered walkways,  Century City (with the brand new Trump tower), A-Venue Plaza with the good, cheapish, supermarket and P150 roast chickens - very cheep!) – but my favorite is the PowerPlant Mall – about 15 min walk. Go there! You will find an upmarket village with plenty of modern high-rise apartments, coffee shops, a university and all the fabulous shopping experiences that the fashionistas could hope for- including Vera Wang ladies! (BTW – as you walk out of the hostel and walk along the street to the right the building next door has a big old monkey in a cage – she loves having her back scratched!!)
On Saturdays and Sundays you can walk/Grab to the Salcedo (Saturday) and Lagaspi (Sunday) markets until 2pm. These are “up-market” markets with prices to match – but worth a visit for good food and quality local crafts.
There are so many bars here that you just have to go exploring… it’s safe enough if you stay sober and don’t do crazy stuff… same as the entertainment district of any city! Tip – Ignore the friendly locals in the area who are sooo happy to help you… it’s a con with many variations on the theme to relieve you of your money and or your valuables.
Jeepneys are the local area buses - but there are also real buses. The train is called the MRT and the nearby station is Buendia – about a 20 min walk. It takes you to almost every mall in Manila (it seems). Almost every station has a mall… maybe try Ortigas or North for the mega mall experience (But the Greenbelt/Glorietta experience will cure you of more visits to big mall complexes). BTW   you need a taxi or bus or jeepney to get to Mall of Asia (Which is over-hyped - in my opinion – its best feature is the view of Manila Bay which is definitely best seen from a distance on a fine evening – try around sunset).
Back to OMP – So it is all good except that – unlike most other hostels in the area – OMP does not air-condition the common areas – it once did – but not now. To make matters worse for those who don’t like the high temperature and humidity, sauna experience, they share 2 fans between two large common areas and an annex. This means there is a constant battle between guests and  staff for a fan! This is a problem that could be easily fixed!!! Some guests don’t stay because it is just too uncomfortable.  If you love high humidity while you are using the computer or sitting around the communal table then you will be happy here.
If you like properly refrigerated food then OMP presents another challenge. It has a small fridge that is constantly overloaded. Right now it is not only overloaded but also leaking, dirty and the freezer is broken iced-up.
Oh and the bathrooms, some toilets, sinks and lights need maintenance for many issues including a missing toilet seat, and no interior handles so that once you are in a cubicle with the door closed it can be very difficult to escape, and lots of non-working light bulbs!
Unfortunately the friendly cockroaches also make ongoing appearances here – especially in the kitchen and some bedrooms!! 
So, if these issues don’t bother you then this is a great place to stay. With attention to these details this could be just right for you.
IMO - If the decision makers here focused strongly on guest comfort and addressed these issues properly this would be a 5 star hostel!!

Great location, staff and facilities but plenty of guest comfort issues

It used to be one of the nicest hostels in Makati, but nowadays suffers of months of overdue maintenance, therefore facilities and appliances start to look rundown. On top of it, ever since the opening of a new restaurant downstairs, water supply of the building seems to be insufficient for all the businesses, therefore expect to have only a few hours of running water each day. As far as bedding in dorms, linens are clean and most of bunks (not all) have curtains. A couple of dorms have either insufficient or broken aircon. Bring your own towel and padlock. If you're allergic to bedbugs, avoid the "Good Shepherd" side, and stay at the "OMP" side. Some of the housekeeping staff are very kind, and they'll do what they can to make you feel comfortable, despite the overall conditions. Wi-Fi available when there's not too many devices connected.

nice location, severe lack of maintenance

My stay here is quiet nice. I arrive very late but the receptionist is very hospitable.. he even transfer me to a room where all females are occupant since i book the mix dormitory.. the wifi is supeeeeeer good.. the price is very friendly.
