I stayed here for 3 nights. I was the only guest so I had the spacious dorm room to myself. I’m unsure as to why no one else was here, this place is great!! I had a relaxing time. The owners are super friendly. The kitchen is a little dirty, but that didn’t bother me. If I ever come back to Huanchaco, I’ll have to stay again!

Perfect place to stay, as per other reviews. The owner Paul is super friendly, helpful and surfs. Clear directions on how to get any sites around town. We wanted to surf Chicama and he knew the exact conditions when it works. Set us up with surfboards, wetsuits, instructions for public transport, where to stay. All on the cheap and we scored perfect Chicama. Cant thank him enough.

I stayed at case Amelia for more than two months while working in Trujillo, and it really is the jackpot of hostals (if you're not looking for a classic party hostal). It is noticeable that Paul puts all his love into it, he tries to make everybody's stay as comfortable as he can and is always open to help with any problems. Who can say no to a woodfire pizza oven, hammock son the roof with ocean view, a parrot, a turtle, rabbits, and a baby cat?

In the total of 16 beds, there was a perfect mix of people staying for a long time to give it a familiar atmosphere, and more quickly traveling backpackers open to go out for drinks not only on weekends. People tend to extend their stays, so make sure to reserve for free beforehand (Paul responds very quickly to emails to the address provided on the website).

If ever in the area, this is the place I would definitively stay at again!

This was a nice hostel near the beach. Nice garden grounds and common areas. They have a nice kitchen available to guests which was great because food in town was either ceviche or meh. 

It's right across from the beach a little past the pier. 

staying at casa amelia was a bit of an adjustment at first for me as it was a bit more rustic than i had expected - i guess i had not realized that i had booked myself into a hostel but fortunately i had reserved the nicest room in the house , the private double with en suite bathroom which is a great deal at $ 21 / night ! i was quite surprised too by how crowded the whole place was considering that it ' s quite small - if it ' s privacy you are looking for you won ' t find it there .... but little by little , i too fell under the spell and felt like i was part of the ' family ' , staying there reminded me of   being in a commune where everybody is very friendly and considerate . i appreciated too the fact that most everybody there was either vegan or vegetarian - i never saw anybody cook  any kind of meat at any time ....
as far as the room , it consisted of 2 floors with a double bed upstairs ( and not much else ) and a sitting room and the bathroom downstairs . actually , having the bathroom downstairs was a bit problematic for me as i tend to go to the bathroom several times during the night and going up & down those stairs in the dark was pretty scary ! there was hot water in the shower but not very strong but given it was hot outside , it was no bother . there was no fan to cool off the room  but keeping the windows open was enough to ensure there was always a nice breeze !
like in any good hostel , there is fairly well equipped  common kitchen though they could use more pots & pans but it ' s  quite small so counter space is limited . the fridge too was quite small and always packed to the gills !
the staff was fantastic - kudos to paul and jill who were so very welcoming and helpful .
would i ever stay there again ? ? most definitely but only if i could stay in the private room  again . if you decide to stay there while in huanchaco , make sure you make a reservation weeks in advance as the place is  very popular and always fully booked !
