Very nice resort with affordable rate....we choose arabic tent....it was very neat n shine...we loved it...the way to the resort was littl difficult for the Sweden cars...bt somehow we manges it.... please bring log for campfire..

We arrived at Sunrise Resort right before sunset and were warmly welcomed with tea and dates, after which we were invited to the rooftop to watch the stunning sunset. We had our own tent so we only paid for camping, 5 OMR per person, which enabled us to pitch our tent inside a little open shelter with light and an electricity outlet for charging our devices. We also had access to a warm shower and bathrooms. This was a much welcome additional comfort after a few days of wild camping. The staff were super nice and even offered us warm blankets for the cold night. The owner of the resort was extremely helpful and showed us all the beautiful hiking trails around the resort. He also serves as a local guide and has a lot of insight into life in the mountains after having grown up there himself. The breakfast was fine with eggs, bread, jam, bacon, beans, fruit and coffee. For those who enjoy nature and are looking for beautiful trails, we can definitely recommend staying at Sunrise Resort. It is the perfect basecamp for hiking, perched at 2500 m up in the Jebel Shams mountain range.

We were a group of 6 families with kids and adults and chose this place for spending our winter night out.

this place is little away from main road, and you need to have a 4wd but a decent saloon car with good ground clearance can easily come.
4wd is recommended for tension free access though.

We booked family villa and some other rooms.
upon arrival we were greeted with kahwa and dates.
rooms are clean and well maintained.

dinner buffet was nice, and after buffet the hotel manager gave us 20-25 logs for bonfire, we had fun whole night.
in the morning we went out for trekking and the trekking track was nearby.
weather was awsome.
there is space for kids to play and adults and anyone can play volleyball.

Sunrise Resort Jebel Shams (not a paid promotion, rather is a personal experience)

A must stay resort in Oman. Around 20 Kms from Jebel Shams viewpoint with a beautiful heart-stopping off-road to this resort...from the base it is only 8 Kms...
Fantastic and helpful staff, peaceful, silent and serene location, far away from all the buzz, noise and lights...

We took an Arabic tent for a family of 2 which had a queen-size bed, they gave us 2 extra bed FOC, the room had a cooler, a heater, cupboard as well as an attached bathroom that had 24 hours hot water... Front of the tent had space for barbecue and campfire...

Ahh...the morning breakfast was really yummy which had chappati, bread, omelette, sausages, Dal, fruit salad, jam, cheese, puck, beans curry made of tomato paste, and one full flask of hot masala tea that was never-ending.

You need an AWD or 4×4 to reach this location and don't forget to get your lunch and dinner as currently those are not provided ( a restaurant is coming up soon, maybe it will be available then).

It has a wonderful view of the cliffs, can do trekking as well as take a stroll in this huge property. It has a swimming pool as well (was under repair). The property has a small park for kids to play.

They have Arabic tents, chalets, a big house and a place dedicated to people who just want to camp themselves with a tent.

The only flip side is, there is no network and WiFi is not provided. That is positive for people who want to enjoy nature away from normal life and be peace, but for people who need mobile for Their daily chores will find it difficult, but then that is the best time to enjoy with friends and family.

I would rate it 4 stars/5 (1 star is lost due to no network).
However, the Resort is highly recommended, must-visit. Definitely worth each and every Penny paid...

Staying in tent was our fist experience and was not sure about it. However reached safely with lots of off-road climb and dust. Weather was cool and welcoming temperature around 22 degrees to escape from heat in plains. Resort has chalets, family rooms, Tents, pool, sheds for family get-together and BBQ even has bonfire space in-front of tents, kids playing area and lots of open space. It was an experience in its own as there was no signal inside but yest if you get little out of the resort gate one gets the signal towers, no TV in Tent so had good time connecting with family and friends which we usually miss these days.....resort has challenges on cleanliness and maintenance in rooms and around. I would still love to go to this resort spending more time with family and friends...cheers.......

Out in the Mountains

Sadly, despite really wanting to stop after a 3.5 hour drive we just left! we didn’t even wait long enough to take photos, I really wish we had as the pictures you see here are nothing like what we saw. 

Pretty bare room, rickety fridge on a stool, very unappealing bed and rusty furniture (I’d really would have thrown most of it out many years ago!) not even a kettle. 

The place has been ‘designed’ with absolutely no thought to the views and it’s nowhere near the really spectacular places; it more closely resembles a building site and a tired one at that.

Go there with camping in mind so it’s just a place to sleep and it may be fine, go there with a nice hotel with lovely views in mind and it’s an unloved, overpriced total miss. 

We turned around and left!

We booked 3 nights in the resort, however, we left after one night! 
The location is great. It‘s on the top of the mountain and the view stunning! We booked a tent which only had an air cond instead of a heater. It was cold up there so we couldn‘t sleep at all because of the cold temperature. What’s more, at night, approx around 3am, some people up there started to party hard and listened to music waaay to loud! In addition, the tent was not very clean and had a lot of damages. The bathroom smelt weird and the shower was broken. 
The staff cannot speak English very well. When we checked in, the receptionnist strangely kept one of our passports. The only really nice and friendly guy was the local guide at the resort. He showed us good tracking trails and was very helpful. 
We only took breakfast. We got white toasts, butter & jam. Very basic and not good quality. It‘s definetly too expensive for what you get.

Bad experience

-Dinner was having Very Basic & Limited Option, whereas Resort was severing Average Food on Al-Cart. Also informed after finishing Dinner. Breakfast was also same, with very limited option. 
-Toilets were not clean and Broken Toilet Seats.
- Hotel Pathway Markup on Offroad from Jabel Shams Canon was very poor.
- Hotel Staff was not assisting to Find Villa in Property Premise's, took almost 15 Minute to find our Accommodation in 2 Deg temp.
- Payment gateway of Vis or Mastercard was not available & not informed in any communication, had to take assistance from friend to transfer money to Resort Account.
- No internet Facility provided and struggled to pass on information of Bank details to Friend. 
- Overall stay was not Good. Not recommended.
