The pictures do not do justice to this wonderful accommodation.  The villa is huge, well kept, and with everything you need for a wonderful week on Niue.  We had coffee many mornings on the lower level front porch while watching spinner dolphins.  From the upper story porch, at low tide you can see many tropical fish -- even more closely with the binoculars provided.  And it is lovely to take a bath outdoors in the bathtub while watching the amazing collection of night stars.  Add in Lau's tie-dyed sheets (they match some of the flora!), being near to the Avatele  beach, and the host's willingness to answer questions and help with tours, and this place is pretty much the definition of paradise.

It has been 4 weeks since we left the stunning island of Niue and the beautiful Lau's Getaway, and it taken this long to be able to sum up in words just what an amazing experience we had staying there.

From Avi meeting us at the airport with our car, we knew that this was going to be a memorable stay. A short 15 minute drive from the airport, and you are at Lau's Getaway, tucked away from the road, high on the clifftop, a hidden gem.

Walking down to the apartment through lush gardens and succulent papaya hanging from the trees, we saw glimpses of the amazing views. It was almost as if Avi had trained the local whales, dolphins and blue parrot fish to be in place when he opened up the bedroom balcony doors. 2 humpback whales playing just 100 mtrs off shore, a pod of around 20+ spinner dolphins even closer and right below the cliff in the coral shallows were iridescent blue parrot fish and sea crates, happily playing in the lapping surf.

The unit was very spacious, had everything that you needed for your stay including a welcome pack of wine, fruit juice, eggs, bread, milk etc. Enough to keep you going until you found your bearings and what you needed. 

The large bedroom had stunning views across the pacific and almost 180 degree visibility up and down the coastline due to its positioning on the cliff top. Every couple of days Lau changed the towels and bed linen and her tie dye sheets are so unique, and refreshing. The upper balcony had a huge double sized outdoor bath and a double daybed, great to watch the ocean from.

Bathroom was enormous (the shower could probably fit 6 people easily), but the design and fit out exceeded our needs. Toiletries, towels, dressing gowns, hair dryer, iron, ironing board were all there and topped up every couple of days. Lau also offers a quick laundry service on a Wednesday to spruce up your larger items of clothing.

Downstairs was a large lounge / dining area with lazy boy chairs, and a simple but well appointed kitchen. 2 TV's and dvd players are there, but didn't need to use them, as sitting outside in evenings listening to whale song and the gentle lapping of waves was therapy in itself.

Whatever you needed was there, and if not, Avi and Lau were usually around (either at home, or at their Kai Ika restaurant - amazing food, a must place to eat at).

Couple of useful hints for travellers staying at Lau's.... insect repellant if sitting outside in the evening (needed everywhere in Niue in the evenings), no need to pack too many clothes thanks to Lau's laundry service, and make the most of the outdoor bath and daybed.

Avi, Lau and their daughters are awesome hosts.

We are already planning our return.....say no more.

Lau's Getaway is by far the best place to stay in Niue.
It is one of the very few places right on the cliff and with amazing views. The villas are very spacious and well equipped, and the hosts are very friendly and always available.
It is a 2mn drive from the Matavai resort so when you want the benefits of a hotel, it is at your doorstep and the hosts have a deal with them so you can go when you want.

Lau's Getaway was an amazing spot in the most beautiful of places. Their website accurately described the accommodation. Your hosts Avi and Lau also live on site and will look after you, plus are more than willing to help with any questions or suggestions for who to contact for tours or just stuff. The accommodation is set up with 2 floors and both have verandas with full sliding doors, which create a lovely breeze. The bed (upstairs) and chairs (downstairs) are very comfortable to use and with air conditioning in the bedroom sleep was no issue. The kitchen had everything we needed, and all appliances are in working order. This is a tropical location and therefore as expected we saw a few lizards but hey that's part of the fun! We rented the car when we booked accommodation was a great little Kia Sportage which got us around the island with no problems at all, you need a car in Niue. Overall great accommodation, great location, wonderful hosts and no problems at all.

Such an amazing place to stay! We stayed as a couple for 7 nights in the Superior View Villa which is closest to the sea. We saw whales daily without leaving the villa. Fascinating watching the fish on the reef below. The facilities in the kitchen were excellent but with local cafes & restaurants serving fresh local fish we didn't need to cook much. Try Kaiika restaurant for Japanese food & fresh pizzas. Having a bath on the deck watching the whales was very special. Sometimes the boat arrives late with supplies for the supermarket so don't expect what you have at home, but isn't that why we visit places like Niue where there is less stress than our normal lives. It felt like the safest place in the world! The locals are friendly & wave to you when driving. Hiring a rental car is a great way to experience the island. Thank you Lau & Avi for providing a perfect place to stay. Would definitely recommend this accommodation.

Whales on your doorstep . Literally . During our fabulous stay we saw whales almost every day - some only 100m from our deck . And heard their songs !
Also spinner dolphins almost daily putting on incredibly aerial displays . 
Who needs tv or wifi ( although there are both ) when you have ringside seats to the only show in town .
Lau’s Getaway is perfect . Self catering but fully serviced three times a week . Such a bonus . 
Decks from both levels so you don’t lose track of the sealife swimming by and the best views . 
Kitchen has all you need to self cater - and I strongly suggest you factor that in if you’re staying longer than a week . Good size fridge freezer to store what you bring with you ( and do bring food with you including fresh fruit and veg which is allowed by customs as long as not home grown ) . 
Generous breakfast pack and a bottle of wine to welcome you as well as fresh coconut . Much appreciated.
Avi and Lau are there for any questions,  but you have all the privacy you want . 
Make sure you stop by their restaurant- Kai Iki . Just great . And you get a generous discount too .

You could stay cheaper , but you’ll never get a view like this - or the opportunity of a lifetime to see.  whales sailing by . It’s paradise .

Lau’s Getaway was absolutely perfect. It has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. 
The first two days we were in Niue it rained almost non-stop so we spent quite a bit of time in the villa but there is so much space that the rain didn’t matter at all. 
The kind size bed is one of the comfiest I’ve slept in. There was an extra blanket if required which was nice because coming from Dunedin I’m used to having lots of weight on me from blankets when I sleep. 
The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare meals. Avi provides an incredible breakfast basket with the necessities which is so helpful. We brought bacon to Niue with us and had bacon and eggs for breakfast several times using the eggs and bread provided by Avi. 
The view from the two balconies is out of this world. It was where we spent the majority of our time when we were at the villa watching the ocean and the dolphins that swim past almost every day during the day and watching the stars at night. 
The Scenic Circle resort is about 900 metres down the road which was handy for happy hour, takeaway pizza or a meal out. 
Town is about a 10-15 minute drive, with the airport only a five minute drive. We hired a car from Avi and this was such a must. We loved that everyone waved as we drove past and the layer back speed limits really got us into holiday mode. 
Finally my partner lost his phone early in the trip however by word of mouth Avi managed to find this for us (sadly just after we left) and has posted this back. Thank you so much Avi for making this an incredible holiday we will never forget. 
We loved our time in Niue and staying at Lau’s Getaway. We will definitely be back.

Amazing location. Great hosts! all you can wish for! Avi takes care and helps organize things, his wife Lau is a gem helping with cleanup during a week's stay to make it even more enjoyable. 
From Bathrobes to nice bathroom amenties  - besides the best view possible! - and even breakfast supplies this place does't leave any open wishes. 
We LOVED the privacy and watching dophins from sitting in the XXL bathtub which we used more as a cool-off mini pool - simply fantastic. 
Best hosts you can imagine and best views!
We will be back during whale season but there was so much to explore - Great!

Simply magic!! We loved every moment at Lau's Getaway.  The views, sunsets, brilliant colours of the ocean were breathtaking.  We enjoyed coffee every morning watching the whales, and dolphins play.  All our needs were met, in this beautiful piece of paradise. We will definitely be back.

It has to be one of the highlights of our South Pacific Islands tour.
Lau's Getaway was the perfect place to enjoy this pristine island.
Excellent viewing decks both on the ground floor and 1st floor to marvel at the dolphins splashing away and  bluer than blue waters crashing over the reef.  The villa was spotless and had everything to make a comfortable stay. Avi, the owner organised a vehicle for the week which is essential if you want to explore this small but beautiful island. 
Niue is a small country, so you will not get fast food joints, high rise hotels, and hoards of travellers. Long may that continue.
We certainly will not forget our wonderful week...

A perfect place on a pristine island

Unable to fault this property. Perfect location, friendly helpful hosts, and thoughtfully presented accomodation. 

As soon as we walked in the unspoilt view of the ocean greeted us and we saw our first pod of dolphins within 5 minutes of arriving. This was clearly a sign of things to come and we were visited by dolphins and whales every day. 

We were also treated to brightly coloured fish and sea snakes whenever we were dining on the bottom deck. 

Such a quiet peaceful spot it was hard to tear ourselves away to visit all the amazing snorkelling sights Niue has to offer. 

The accomodation is in a 
perfect location, lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves, and in the morning just sit up in bed to see the sea life as soon as you open your eyes. 

I loved the attention to detail such as the chilled fresh coconuts on arrival, bathrobes, and a grocery arrival pack that kept us going most of the week. We also loved the provision of the binoculars, and the day bed on the top floor which we spent many a night star gazing from. 

Avi was so helpful and nothing was too much effort, and Lau keeps the place spotless. 

We only have positive things to say about Lau’s, and Niue and we can’t wait to go back.
