We had a very nice 3-day stay in one of the cottages. It was very quite, and the beds were very comfortable with an electrical blanket. The cottage was quite well equipped and there was heating.We had a great trip to Doubtful Sound, which the lady at the reception helped us to book. Unfortunately, the weather was quite wet, and the cottage was a bit damp. We asked for an extra change of towels as  they did not dry well in the cottage.We went to Te Anau for dinner as the local pub mostly seems to have fried food. We found a nice Indian Restaurant, and the Thai place in Te Anau was very busy. There was also a bakery in Te Anau that sold pies, including vegetarian pies.

It was an amazing location and the facilities were really clean and organized. It was a great stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Possum Lodge - much more than we expected! We booked one of the family cottages - cottage 2. As others have noted, it’s rustic, yet charming. We felt it was a good size for the three of us and the amenities were good. Best part was the surrounds - very well maintained and beautiful garden, set amongst native trees and right next to the lake. We had afternoons where we just chilled outside. The Church and the local cafe were both 5 minutes walk away, and we frequented both and enjoyed our meals. Would happily recommend this to anyone that like to be off the beaten track a bit.

The most beautiful place to stay in Fiordland. Cute retro cabin with great kitchen and bathroom. On the lake. Great walks around the area and easy walk to Real NZ port for boat to Doubtful Sound. Host Henry and his family were really friendly snd helpful - great experience visiting Possum Lodge

A magical spot like no other, well worth staying at Possum Lodge for this alone…Highly recommend!

Henry went out of his way to help us. He knew the local attractions and their costs in his head. This is a fantastic place for families with a games room, lounge and kitchen facilities. Next time we go to Manapouri, we will definitely stay here.

A good night's sleep

Excellent place for exploring Fiordland

We stayed two nights in one of the self contained cottages which felt like staying in your grandma's house. Clean and functional but very old school/retro. The bed was comfy with a grandma coverlet. A full kitchen was provided including a stove and microwave. The cottage was warm and the shower hot. The location was excellent allowing a walk into the few shops in town and to the wharf for cruising including through the forest which reminded us strongly of Norway. The Church in town was a great pub also with a chilled vibe, frequented by locals and we had an excellent meal and a generous glass of wine and would recommend if it's open when you visit. Henry the owner/manager of the park was friendly and chilled. There were sports items like kayaks you could borrow which would be great in summer and a fire pit. We enjoyed the casual vibe here and would recommend if you need a place to stay.

Old school accommodation and vibe

This is a really cool place.

Henry takes such pride in the place, and really cared about our experience. He made sure we selected the site that would work best for us, (we were in a campervan) and I saw him escorting others around to do the same.  We loved the relaxed “old school” vibe around the place, and the sound of the songbirds everywhere.  Being so close to the lake and to the trails through the woods. The scent of wood smoke drifting through camp when Henry lit up a fire in the chimera.  The skies at night through the trees.

Fancy, this is not.  Authentic, yes, 1000%.  Clean, cheerful, relaxing.

The Real Deal

We stayed in a camper van and a friend camped next to us which wasn’t a problem for the electric hookup bit. 
We were warmly welcomed on arrival and felt very at home at this small but well run family campsite. 
It was so nice to go for nearby walks and the campsite even lent us a kayak to cross the river. 
We had been camping for about 10 days at different sites both private and DOC, but this was by far the best. So nice to have a beer by the campfire and talk to other guests/ travellers. 
The pub/old church at the top of the track is also worth a visit.
Thanks for a great stay and I hope we are back someday.

Amazing chilled stay, a fantastic vibe

We just left this place today and I can’t speak highly enough of the units, the beauty and the location. The family that run it are so friendly and will help with anything - we were rushing out but had a couple of hoodies to dry and they offered to put them in when the dryers were free, we came back and they were dry and folded on our doorstep, so sweet.  They also have a fire at night where we had marshmallows and chatted with other guests that were also talking about how great the hosts are and their accomodations. There’s a restaurant/pub a couple minutes walk up the road, and and an awesome flying fox (which holds adults too!), and it’s 5mins walk through beautiful bush to the doubtful sound ferry. Our family had a great time and we’ll definitely be back. Nga mihi. Thanks again.

Wow, what a special place

We stumbled a a cross possum lodge when looking for accommodation close to doubtful sound departures - literally a stoned throw away. It's exactly as they describe it, "an original from the 'good ole days'". Nestled amoung the trees, its so peaceful. At night the fairy lights in the trees glow, it's a lovely atmosphere! Facilities are well equipped, very clean and simple but also stylish (retro) and homely. The kitchen is my favourite, so well stocked with lots of nice touches. Also Ruby, the dog, is so sweet!

During my planning of my first ever solo campervan holiday I found this place.

I  based my whole trip around coming here and i wasn't disappointed. 

I stayed here two nights so i could do the Doubtful Sounds tour. 
Leanne was lovely to meet and so helpful.  

The facilities were outstanding. 
Hot showers.
A real hairdryer. 
Fresh beautiful water.
Super quiet with beautiful bird life. 
And a stunning night sky.

Just below the camp are a couple of tracks by the lake. 
I took some amazing sunset photos and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. 

In the morning the walk down to the Ferry is only 5-10 min through bush. 

A dump station is just at the beginning of the town by the fire Station.  



Best place i stayed

We parked our motorhome there for 2 weeks with our kids and pets. All the accommodations were clean and very comfortable. When I needed anything, they were very helpful. Got to kayak, swim and enjoy walking paths. Realised I left my daughter's expensive swimsuit there and 3  weeks later they still had it and are mailing it to me.

Extremely family friendly, generous and comfortable

We were in a campervan. small but friendly place to stay and the hosts were magnificent. good cellphone coverage, but they also had free wifi. Facilities basic but kind of quaint so it was very likable. Apart from one dope-smoking customer staying near us (at least they were quiet) it was a quiet location virtually next to the lake. short walk to the village and short walk to the wharf to catch the cruise.
