I had a lovely airy attic room

The b & b has a very pleasant laid back feel so you dont even feel the need to lock your room

Breakfast was outstanding 

I did have 2 gripes however : they dont accept major credit cards and  the wifi did not work in my room 

I shall return however 

We stayed at this beautiful B&B for one night to see the town of Zutphen. The location is great: pretty much on the main historic square of the town. Right next door is the wonderful restaurant t' Schulten Hues as well. What struck us first is the old building: it's been there since the Middle Ages, but renovated over and over again. Now it has beautiful touches of modern design, but still it does feel like you're part of the history of the town. The hosts are very friendly, and prepare an excellent breakfast.

Excellent stay – beautiful history, friendly hosts

Charming historic townhouse in beautiful dutch town

We were disappointed, having looked at the website and read other reviews. On the plus side, the building is historical and unique, in a lovely part of old Zutphen. The view from our window was great. But the not so good aspects outweighed these things and we moved somewhere else after one night. The house was renovated some time ago and it needed renewed attention. The room did not smell fresh and the decor looked tired and old. The inside of the kettle needed a good clean before we could use it. The clock radio did not work and looked grubby. The handset for the (very old) tiny TV did not work properly. The bathroom was described as "private" but to get to it we had to cross a public landing and go past the breakfast room. To be fair, dressing gowns were provided, but we discovered that a kitchen was also part of our "private" bathroom which reduced the sense of privacy in the morning. Neither Harry nor Alice made us feel particularly welcome, which was unexpected. Breakfast was not included in spite of the B&B description, and it was pricey, taking the total cost well above that of a good hotel. The last straw was that the promise of free wifi did not materialise in spite of our repeated requests for it. The broadband service failed and we never managed to get onto the internet at all. This place has potential but to satisfy younger guests it has a lot of upgrading to do.
