Beach Resort Makkum Bungalows

We loved our time here, right on the beach which was a massive bonus. Kids could spend all day on the beach, even though it was very busy we still had lots of space on the massive beach. Plenty to do in and around, place was extremely busy though, but it is clearly a very popular place hence why it was rammed all the time. Would defo come back for the beach alone.

The site is a delight, with a wide range of birds everywhere and rabbits hopping around unconcernedly (dogs have to be on leads). Lots of trees, bushes and turf with buttercups and daisies. Walking around the site and crossing the little bridges is pleasant, with water everywhere. The houses are in a range of styles, many with thatched roofs. There are two easily accessible beaches - fine sand, many small shells, some wooden picnic tables.  The shallow water of the Ijselmeer is ideal for children as well as windsurfers etc. There was quite a strong wind when we were there. From Google Earth it looks as though the nature reserve is accessible along a dike but it’s currently overgrown and impassable.

Information could have been better. There was no explanatory booklet in our Schakel bungalow and it’s not apparent from the website that the shop is only open Monday, Friday and Saturday. (I had to ask in the gym to find this out - reception is closed all week too.) Would also have liked to have known the hot water timing: my 6.15 shower was cold!

The bungalow was comfortable and spacious with modern appliances but rather eccentrically furnished with a lack of places to put things e.g. we had to clear away some of the large wooden ornaments to have a place for the breadbin. The style is unfinished wood everywhere and a clever wood-effect floor. However, my bedroom had no hooks, no chair or stool, no bedside table - I had to use an upended suitcase. One drawer, a wardrobe with a rail and coathangers. Bafflingly the kitchen had zillions of small side plates but no cereal or soup bowls. Toaster but no microwave. The Bosch induction hob worked OK but the oven defeated me with its range of incomprehensible symbols - the instruction manual didn’t include English. 

The stairs are steep and narrow. Being old, I went down backwards using the handrail, like a stepladder.

There are a lot of midge-type insects (hence the birds) - bead screens on the patio doors and wire screens on the windows keep them out of the house. I never got bitten.

For those interested in birds, I saw sand martins (lots), sparrows, wagtails, tits, a jay, goldfinches on the groundsel, magpies, jackdaws, blackbirds, wood pigeons, collared doves, heard a cuckoo, oystercatchers, blackheaded gulls, coots, a kingfisher, swans, a range of ducks, Canada geese (too many), other geese, grebes, a heron.

This is a well designed laid out resort. Beach Resort Makkum is a unique holiday park situated along the IJsselmeer of Friesland, The Netherlands. The park includes a selection of comfortable bungalows and luxurious villas along the lakeside and/or beach. If you plan on travelling with a group, don’t hesitate to also browse through our larger villas accommodating between 10 and 12 guests. Whether a family gathering or weekend with friends, Beach Resort Makkum is sure to provide you with an unforgettable stay in the Netherlands!  
Going for a round of mini golf, a tennis game at our all-weather tennis court or renting a boat at Captain’s Bikes and boats. At the reception you can get the newspaper of the day and on your way back you can bring fresh baked bread from our Captain’s Snack Corner. In short: there is so much to do at the bungalow park.
And mind you, their beach is a windsurfers paradise. 

The resort is nicely layed out, well organized, and clean. Msbagement is ptofessional, staff is friendly and fluent in Dutch, English, German languages. There are playgrounds right in front of the villas. Children can do all sorts of water sports inclufing swimming in the shallow and safe waters of the lake. The villa we stayed in was spacious with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathroom and a sauna. We have booked again for 2019

This is a great romantic kitesurfing destination. The hotel beach is perfect for learning or practicing skills on flat, shallow water. Hotel rooms were nice but nothjng special. 

Hotel restaurant was delicious, reasonably priced with lovely views. 

We rented an apartment (flat) in small block of flats with parking place not a house (bungalow). It was very good decision :). Two bedrooms, big living room, open kitchen, bathroom with separate WC, big balcony. Big enough for 4 for all week also 2 or 3 weeks :). Situated almost on the beach :)). I agree with RL, it is 'best family destination ever' :). Sandy beach, shallow sea, holiday atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet place given the fact - it is resort :). Very good accommodation, 3 minutes to supermarket, 10 meters to the beach, the same to the restaurants, bars and coffees. Far away (>1 km) from the reception house :). 3 km from the cosy Makkum city: small, sweet and very charming. And with big 'Jumbo' supermarket.
The neighborhood is a lot of space for walking or biking, playing all '-ball' sports as well as badminton :).
Great and very pleasure place for holidays, and we plan to visit this place again for 2 weeks next year for sure.

Nice restaurants nearby overlooking the beach, makkum only a short cycle down the road. The bungalow accomadated 5 friends easily. Clean and we'll furnished with a full kitchen including dish washer. Living room and space out book to sit together outside. The complex had bikes and kayaks to hire. 

Great Ressort. Several types of Holiday Homes you can  rent. From max 6 people up to big groups. Beautiful, clean and tidy with playgrounds every 100m walkdistance. Great for boaters with a Slip-ramp (Up to 7m ) and mooring behind your Holiday Home. The beach is perfect with kids, because you can walk 100m into the IJsselmeer and the water is just up to your knees. Makkum is a beautiful Village with all the shops and Restaurants you might need during your Holiday.
