El Secreto Xpuha

In the world of commercialized mega resorts it has become increasingly difficult to find beachfront accommodations in a natural, unspoiled environment at a reasonable price. Secreto Xpuha is a rustic, natural cabana literally a stone's throw from the surf on beautiful Xpu-Ha beach. If you are looking to immerse yourself in nature with the basic necessities provided, there aren't many places like this. The front deck offers a world-class view and direct exposure to the most beautiful turquoise waters and waves cresting on the offshore reef, palm trees swaying in the breeze, really dreamy. You could travel the whole world and not fond a more beautiful view. Afternoons were spent relaxing on the porch, reading, absorbing the tranquility and staring at the mesmerizing view. The wind, surf and sun clears the mind and brings about a zen-like state. I kept the doors open all night and slept to the surf, waking occasionally to view the stars, then woke up and had coffee right on the deck. With the steady offshore breeze there is no need for AC and no bugs. The thatched-roof cabana has all you need, with a private bath, hot shower, basic kitchen, electricity and decent wi-fi. It is natural, rustic and basic so don't come expecting 4 star accommodations, think glamping. You are literally right on the beach so be prepared for wind, sun and sand. Xpu-Ha is a world-class beach with crystal clear waters running every shade of turquoise to deep blue and purple, with soft powdery white sand and really cannot be improved on. Since the beachfront property at XpuHa is mostly privately owned, there are mostly local owned beach clubs, homes and lots of open space, especially on the north end of the beach where you can find plenty of solitude. There is only one large hotel and it is not that large. There are plenty of beachfront restaurants and the restaurant Aranza next door to Secreto has excellent fresh grilled seafood. I had a whole fresh fish cooked to perfection on the grill almost every day, and it is not expensive. They are happy to serve me on my porch so it is like having room service! They were friendly and took really good care of me (I always tip well). After a week here I didn't want to leave. The deep, peaceful feeling of staring into the brilliant sea, with the breeze and brilliant tropical sun on me lingers long after I returned home. And it cost a lot less than going to a resort.
