Six Senses Laamu

Six Senses Laamu is everything you hope for in an upmarket resort, it is barefoot (literally) luxury at its best, largely thanks to the fantastic people who work there. We may have just been lucky with the team assigned to us but I suspect that all staff at this wonderful place are truly first class. Our GEM, Faudi, really did cater to our needs perfectly. He seemed to get the measure of who we were and what we needed straight away, anticipating what we might like to do, eat and see before we had even thought about it and if we needed anything at all we just sent him a message and it was done. He gave us just the right amount of attention, coming to find us occasionally to check everything was just right and making sure that we weren’t missing anything. It was great to have one point of contact for everything and have our dinner venues chosen and booked for us with the option to change if we wanted to. Our housekeeper, Asif, was also perfect, unobtrusive and efficient, making sure that we had everything we needed and anticipating what we didn’t even know we needed! We were upgraded to a different villa for our last two nights (thank you Faudi!) and Asif made sure that our new person knew too. All the restaurant staff were incredible. They were efficient, super friendly and helpful, always happy to stop for a chat. It was really interesting finding out a little about their normal lives too and amazing to learn what a diverse group they are. In fact all the staff had a cheery smile and comment, from the people sweeping the paths to the managers in the office. Vienny gave us a friendly wave and beautiful smile every time we walked past, what a lovely start to the day! The activities were great. We went on the sunset dolphin cruise, during which we learned all about the wildlife around us from Giselli. There were a lot of complementary activities too, like the fascinating chocolate demonstration and learning all about sugar cane and the surprisingly diverse varieties of plants growing in the garden, all delivered with enthusiasm and knowledge. Our visit to SHELL gave context to our location, we learned a lot from Summer about what environmental work was going on behind the scenes by various groups. The recycling centre was also fascinating and well organised. The whole holiday was an absolute joy and I even enjoyed getting about by bike and the wind that blew constantly keeping us all cool! It made snorkelling a bit of a challenge sometimes but we still got to see everything we wanted on the house reef and our 15 year-old son was brilliantly looked after by the dive centre crew. There really was as much or as little to do as you wanted. I could go on at length but will just say that everything about this place was pretty perfect but the staff were really very, very special.
