The location was awesome. It was only 3 minutes away from dogo onsen station. The staff was really kind. The beddings were thick and soft and I slept very well. I liked the kitchen which guests were allowed to use freely but it was a little bit old and is needed to be repaired. In general, Miso soup geusthouse is recommendable for the guests who would like to meet new travellers and feel Japanese home.

great and recommendable hostel in Matsuyama

My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights in lack of any other cheap & affordable accommodation in Matsuyama and were glad by the time we moved on... 

Starting with the checkin time which starts at 5pm its pretty late compared to "usual times" around the world. Fortunately, we were allowed to stay at the common area, which was rather small, due to our early arrival. 

The house offers beds for about 16 people, but there is only one shower and one toilet for all of them. But there is not a sink for hygienic actions. So you had to brush your teeth over the kitchen sink where the bio-waste-smell gets quiet intense into your nose. 

The cooking space is very narrow, there is no oven and the "kitchen table" on the floor fits maximum 4 - 6 people if you don't want to crunch yourself down. 

The beds have been pretty hard, didn't had a full blind curtain around them and the air conditioning was only allowed to be on during the night, which made it extremely hot in the house in the afternoon or during the day.

The manager lady who runs, but not owns, the place throw a dinner party with non-guest friends on the first evening of our stay which did go past 11pm, people slept (for free) on the floor during the night and been pretty noisy throughout the evening.

So overall only the kind of central location and low prices makes this place worth it. But you pay a comfort price for it on top!

Old, shabby, uncomfortable

Small traditional guesthouse - by Dogo Onsen. Walkable to train station, but take tram - no 5 on JR pass if necessary. Manager very helpful and welcoming.  Extra blankets if needed.  Close to supermarket.  Cooking facilities.  BUT it is small - so you have been warned!

Great value for money

The guesthouse was pleasant with a wonderful manager that allowed to play and discuss with her around the kotatsu. The guesthouse itself is a little cramped but ideally located near Dogo Onsen. The only "bad" thing was the lack of heater. It was really cold inside the house so be prepared if you go during winter.

Average guesthouse with nice manager

The house is very small. The living consists in a kotatsu (really loved it btw) and a tv. Along is the kitchen, very small, where you brush your teeth next to those who are washing the dishes.
The manager was very kind and she's very good at dr mario. But her smile couldn't compete with the cold temperatures inside the house. 
No heat, except the kotatsu. And 3 covers in the bed are enough. But when you get out of bed, or the small bathroom or the toilet, it's very freezing !
