Great place to stay. Well equipped kitchen and laundry, spacious living and dining areas. The bedrooms are large and everything is clean and in good condition. There are pre-made frozen meals you can buy- the curry is delicious. 
Location is great- there are many walking tails from the lodge or a short drive away, onsens are close, and the info centre over the road is a good place to visit with a great cafe close by. 
We loved going to sleep to the sound of the river

A beautiful lodge in the Japan Alps with a friendly bilingual staff and fantastic meals! The lodge offers snowboard lessons, backcountry tours, mountain biking, rental epuipment, etc. There are beautiful waterfalls nearby, as well as a fun ropes course, and nature galore to satisfy the soul. Highly recommend this place!

There is a great but also mountain bike, hiking, backcountry snowboarding and some indoor activity for family(climbing, table tennis, soccer game).
I like snowboarding on fresh dry snow “Japow”. And also there are a lot of beautiful nature in Norikura.
I visited North Star with my family every year.

I had a business trip in Tokyo and wanted to do some mountain biking on my spare time. When I found Northstar online it felt like the perfect place. 

Getting there I took the train from Shinjuku to Matsumoto, changed trains at Matsumoto to Shimshimashima Station and finally switched to a bus which dropped me off right across from the Northstar Lodge. Took a while, but was pretty easy to do. 

I stayed for one night. Dinner and Breakfast were excellent and then spent the next 6 hours mountain biking. My guide helped me have one of the best days of my life. Can't wait to go back!

We were a family of 8 spread over 4 rooms. In reality we could have fit into 2 rooms since they are quite large. The rooms are Japanese style with great views to the outside which is basically inside a National Park. They  had very comfortable tatami floors, Futons and the most comfortable comforters ever. So snug for those -20 degree nights, you will experience on the mountain.  There are toilets and washbasins in every room as is anterooms for your shoes. But beware all showers are communal in the Onsen. A common feature in a lot hotels in the area. This was initially a turnoff for us but eventually it turned out very fine. They have a private shower facility which you can also use if you are not willing to share the typical common bath for the Japanese. In general it was a great experience for us.

The hotel is about an hour 20 minutes away from Takayama proper during Snowtime. Everyone drives slow here and with good reason. It's high up the mountain the roads are usually covered with snow in the winter. The area is a bit on the remote side as the place is basically a village with not much buildings. Dining facilities are not numerous though the ones we ate in Primavera the italian place, and Abbey Road, the funky Japanese Fusion Restaurant , both booked by the hotel were good and of nice value.  Because of the remoteness and since you can literally get stuck in the lodge during a snow storm, breakfast is included and dinner is also usually offered. Breakfast differs daily and is quite ample. We had dinner once, and the food was good and hearty. Definitely worth the place. 

The place is actually like a recreation center, they can book all your activities like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing etc. There's even a rock wall for climbing in one of the buildings. Basically they can arrange lessons, equipment ,even attire for the occasion, tours pretty much anything the area offers. They also have lots of suggestion for stuff to do. Though I think the description that you can ski to the lodge from the ski slopes is a bit on the exagerated side. Theoretically you could but it's quite a long cross country ski.

I must mention the staff, as their service is exemplary. Lots of little things for going out of their way , like taking my wife who did not ski up to the lunch time refuge for skiing so she could join us and then fetching her back to bring to the lodge. There were lots of little instances like this. 

Our family had a great time in the mountain, we would not mind returning, in fact their last good bye was See you next year rather than so long :) We can highly recommend this place!

Great service. Went there on last minute trip from Tokyo. Get the full board option, the dinner and breakfast was excellent. Spent the day mountain biking with Rikuya in the deep forest. Fun times and highly recommended.

Our cycle tour group came here - beautiful themed interior for cyclists and skiers/snowboarders.  Rooms have a toilet, but shower is onshen style.  Futon beds, but chairs and table in rooms.  Dinner was excellent - spare ribs and vegetables/salad, plus soup, and dessert of homemade oatmeal cookies with fresh cut fruit.  Good coffee.
