It was a bit of work to get our luggage from Kyoto station to this guest house via city bus. But it was worth it. The reward was the beautiful Sannenzaka neighborhood with its stone paths, tea houses and, of course, the famous five story pagoda is there for gorgeous photos. (One of the most beautiful Starbucks in the world is there too.) We were emailed detailed instructions about how to get into the apartment before our arrival and they were idiot proof. Basically, the keys are in a lock box just inside the entrance and you're emailed the combination to the box containing your room key. As for the apartment itself, it was really, really nice. As is Japanese custom, take off your shoes before entering. Slippers are provided. The apartment comes with a full kitchen, which we didn't really use. We did keep stuff we bought at the kombini in the fridge, though. The beds were very comfortable. The temperature control was easy to figure out. Loved that the toilet was kept in its own little room apart from the bathtub, shower and sink. I honestly don't think there were any negatives about this apartment. Do stay here for a proverbial full body immersion into Kyoto.
