I wanted to experience traditional Japanese stay and this ryokan was perfect. It’s about 13-15 min walk from Kyoto Station and about 10 min walk from Sichijo Station.  Love the incredible personal touch. I was able to leave my luggage to sightsee and looking forward to experiencing sleeping on tatami.  There’s tea/water at the lobby as well as toothbrush and hair dryer if needed.

Good position, clean and comfortable. Reasonable price. Aki-san very helpful. I recommend the small shops on your walk to the station. The okonomiyaki joint next door is a gem if you can get in. I’ll be back.

The owner is a very sweet man who’s always willing to help you. Since we arrived in the afternoon, he messaged us and said he left our key in the front. The room has two futon beds that we could roll out. We LOVED how versatile the set up of the room is. The owner would come in every morning when we’re out to replace our towels with new ones. He had tea, cups, and water on the first floor for us. This was our favorite hotel during our visit in Japan. It’s 1-2 stops from Kyoto downtown and a 5-7 min walk to the nearest subway station, but we didn’t mind the walk. We will definitely come back to stay here in the future. 

The main reason for the rating is the cost for a private room with attached bath is comparable to that for a dorm bed in a hostel or a capsule hotel. Additionally the host is great and the location is excellent for Kyoto sightseeing by foot. 

Let me elaborate. I stayed at a tatami room with a bright and modern attached bathroom for a couple of nights. The room was cosy with newer appliances such as air con/heater, tv. It is small, which is typical of Japan in general. 

The host is extremely friendly and makes a real effort to provide useful information about sights and food and all things a first time Kyoto visitor would need. He is also super available and happy to be contacted on the front desk phone 24/7. 

Tea is offered at the lobby at all times. Picture shown is the area where you can unwind at lobby for your free tea. Free Toothbrushes are available if you forgot. Soap and shampoo are provided. Small bath towels are changed daily. WiFi worked well. 

The location is decent on a quiet street, walking distance to Kyoto station (Approx 15 mins) and Gion (Approx 25 mins) and nishiki market (approx 35 mins).  There are many famous sights and restaurants within those areas. I do love walking so 10-15 miles a day is typical for me.

The owner is very friendly and sociable and even if he doesn't have a perfect english, he is taking time to explain you Kyoto, to share with you the different events of the moment, tips that you can do, place to do and if you have any questions, he will do his best to answer and satisfy your request

Location is not close of the touristic area (it's positive because Kyoto is so touristic even more than Tokyo that is good to go out of the folk)

Really enjoyed our stay here. Location is nice and quiet down a residential street but not far from station and city attractions. I stayed in a single room which although basic had essential facilities like good air con, tv and private bathroom. The futon was surprisingly comfortable and I slept well. The reception area has free tea , a water cooler, fridge and microwave. You can also help yourself to a hairdryer. The owner is very friendly and helpful and seems to run the place single handedly. Very clean and good value for money 

My partner and I absolutely loved staying at Kamoya Ryokan for our 3 nights in Kyoto.

When we arrived, we were enthusiastically 
greeted by the owner, who checked us in and gave us a very useful map of Kyoto, complete with notes on the best places to eat and to visit. He also talked us through the various Ryokan amenities such as water and tea available downstairs, a handy microwave to use in the communal area and hairdryers.

The room itself was also great - we were lucky enough to get a top floor one with a balcony. The wc and shower were also good and in very clean condition. We were surprised to find out the owner really does everything by himself! From the check in/check out duties to cleaning and refurbishing the rooms, a true one-man operation!

The futons are comfortable for the sleeper who is ok with harder surfaces, and it really depends on the person. I was perfectly fine with it, but my partner struggled a bit. Still, this does not detract from our experience and the rating we would give to this structure.

We loved staying and Kamoya Ryokan and we would come back again!

The owner, Aki, is fantastically helpful and kind. He helped us find a steak restaurant and made the reservation for us. He also took all our luggage to our room when it became available for check in!

The facilities are great. Bathroom, shower, good wifi, clean room. Free green tea available downstairs. We really enjoyed our time here. Very quaint.

Close to Kyoto Station (10-15 min walk) and amazingly close to Tofukiji Station (5 min walk).

Stayed here with my cousin. Very nice authentic Japanese style room. We rented bikes and had a great time! It was a great way to see Kyoto! Staff was very helpful and gave great recommendations. 10/10!

A 6 room traditional style that exceeded expectations! Aki was amazing and gave us tons of information about the local shrines, and made our stay excellent! The area is in a more local area of town. I would highly recommend this!

Simple little Ryokan 

Stayed 6 nights. The host is super friendly and speaks some English.
It is a fairly basic ryokan, but has its own bathroom, air conditioning and is very clean.
Everything else fridge, hair dryer, etc is freely available at reception.
It’s a  pleasant15 minute walk to the Kyoto train station.
It’s in a quiet location.
Main down side is WiFi is only available at reception, none in your room.
It’s reasonable value for expensive Japan.
