About 8 mins walk from local train station. Whole place is so well decorated. Feels dreamy with Ghibli's soundtracks mildly played. The owner speaks great English. Everything is clean and efficient. I stayed in a dorm of 4. The room itself might be a bit small if you have big suitcase. But the space was fair enough for me.Top floor is where you can hang the laundries. You can see Kumamoto castle from there. Overall it was a great stay. Also great value for money.

I just spent one night in this hostel but it was like a dream. I've stayed in lots of dorm in my life and all over the world, and this place is in my top 10 of the best dorms I've been too. It felt like being in a little haven, and the fact it was only women made it like a multi-age sorority. The atmosphere was so delightful, the traditional dorm so comfortable and peaceful, the staff so welcoming and the whole place so tastefully decorated. I just found it weird there was not towel and soap in the bathroom when everything else was so perfect! Also didn't like the living fish kept in small tanks and used as decoration tools in the entrance, a bit cruel to make animals live in such a small space just for our pleasure...

This hostel is well looked after. They speak very good English and give you a lot of local information. There is a lot of attention to detail inside and it is kept in good order and very clean. I did not feel it was too busy and always facilities available, no queues. The wifi was best i have had so far and the kitchen and tv are well equipped.the room was a great size for me. The managers were available  by buzzer if needed. It was definitely value for money and a shame they had no availability to extend my stay. I have stayed at two other locations kumamoto and there is no comparison i would recommend this hostel above the others. Possibly one of the best ive stayed in generally.

It's clean and comfortable.  I had a wonderful stay and a great nights sleep.  It is close to a youme grocery store but it's does take around 15-20 minutes walk from the train station and bus station ( different locations).  Overall, it was great :)

This place was very cute. The whole house was decorated so well. Had some Ghibli based decoration here and there. A very quiet and calming place. Nothing much was in the neighbhourhood though.

The place is wonderful. I love the clothes drying  rooftop. Beautiful Japanese decoration all over. So home feel. I arrived late. The lady staff was very helpful to explain the Hiroshima attractions in good English. The sleeping room is spacious. Nice experience.

More than expect. From every single detail can see the guest house is under good care. Very elegant and delicate decoration.

It is a hostel with a hotel service. The house owner offered to help us with our suitcases up and down the stairs, which made us flattered, and introduced the house and the area to us in every detail. The house itself is very nice and pretty. We're all happy about it.

Decorated beautifully with all the girly things.
You may need to take the luggage upstairs and no amenities are provided (pay per use).
But the staff are nice and facilities very clean.
It's not close to the main strip - halfway between the main station and downtown but close to the tram stop.

I didn't see mention of any dyeing workshops or anything though.

Very clean n elegant decoration of entire house which makes the living condition good. The only downside is no bath amenities are provided free of charge

Yes, the Dyeing and Hostel Nakashimaya has an age limit.  Thankfully the management "allowed me" to stay because I happen to be 51 years and didn't read the fine print.

Why do they have an age limit?  The management told me that they want to preserve the purity of a "youth hostel" and therefore limit anyone over 49.  According to the management, people like me can stay at fancier, more expensive hotels, leaving the youth hostels for the young folks. 

It's the first time I have been turned away from an establishment because of my age since I was 18 and tried to sneak into a bar.
