The best hotels are family owned and operated and this one is no exception. There were three generations on deck. They and the other staff were kind and helpful. Signor Basilio gave me a tour of the wine tunnel labyrinth under the hotel which was fascinating. Don’t be fooled by the rustic construction of this hotel such as exposed beams. Everything about it is quality. From the heavy cutlery and glassware in the restaurant to monogrammed linen sheets on the bed and Bulgari toiletries. The bathroom deserves a special mention, quality fittings and beautiful marble and mosaics. The hot water and water pressure were outstanding. And not a drop of water on the floor. I’ve had many an Italian experience where shower water floods into the bathroom. Special mention to Matteo on reception and the lovely Hungarian cleaner whose name I missed but who combined forces to help me with recommendations and logistics, which is essential if you’re travelling on your own in Italy and without a car. Can’t wait to go back.
