Bed And Breakfast "Le Tortorelle"

We are an American married couple in our mid-60’s who stayed at Le Tortorelle B&B in Santa Maria degli Angeli for five nights in June 2016. Our stay there was absolutely wonderful. We couldn’t have been more pleased. The hosts (Elisa and Fabio) were very warm, welcoming, gracious, and generous. The accommodations were quiet and comfortable (we stayed in L’Angelana, the room with a private bathroom). There was off-street parking for our rental car, but Le Tortorelle is also within easy walking distance of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli as well as of the bus stop for the 10-minute ride up the hill to Assisi. The breakfasts were ample and delicious. The main reason we stayed at Le Tortorelle, though, is that I have celiac disease and my wife is gluten intolerant. Le Tortorelle is endorsed by the Associazione Italiana Celiachia (AiC). It turns out that Elisa, the wife who prepares the breakfasts at Le Tortorelle, also has celiac disease. So she prepares great gluten-free breakfasts that include homemade GF breads and other baked goods. She even made the extra effort to create new GF breads for me that didn’t contain corn, since I am sensitive to it. But there was plenty of food for adults and kids who don’t have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, including regular bread. There was also prosciutto (and other meats), cheese, yogurt, Nutella, and cereals. Plus, their espresso was great, and they also have teas for people who prefer them. The table for breakfast was set beautifully and lovingly every day. Additionally, the kitchen was fully available for our use, which was quite helpful because our problems with gluten are sometimes hard for restaurants to accommodate, although I must say that restaurants throughout Italy are much more adept are dealing with celiac disease than most restaurants in the US. So we bought some local food and cooked several great meals in the kitchen. Fabio and Elisa are dedicated to welcoming people and helping them make their stay in Assisi a beautiful experience. FYI, when we stayed at Le Tortorelle in June of 2016, Fabio and Elisa were thinking about moving their location although it appears from their website that they haven’t, at least for now.
