Grand Hotel Grisone

We visited this hotel in the between their peak seasons.  It is located in the valley surrounded by mountains.  The hotel staff were excellent. If you want to relax in a quiet area, this is ideal.  The had outside activities to participate in.  The rooms were ok, nothing great.

We were the only English speaking guests in the Hotel but they had a couple of staffers who spoke English and they were very helpful. The Hotel is basic but clean. The restaurant was expensive - we ate elsewhere. 

The Hotel is very remote. We traded a timeshare for the week. 

If you want to relax - this is the place!

Beautiful, friendly Hotel

Off Season

We booked and paid for 1 week at the Hotel Grisone (via RCI).  We left after 3 days.  

The room was described as '1 bedroom', but in reality it was 2 standard hotel rooms with the  connecting door unlocked.   There was no furniture in either room except 1 chair and a built-in desk.  The balcony was a good size but had no chairs or table. - after asking, the hotel provided 2 chairs.   There were no tea/coffee making facilities, no clock, no radio and no hair dryer.   When requested, the hotel did provide a hair dryer.   The room was supposed to have a bar fridge - not initially in the room  but provided upon request.  Although it was late summer, the nights get cold at Lake Laceno (around 12c).  When we reported that the room heater was not working, it took several conversations (bordering on an argument in one case) before they agreed to supply an electric room heater.
As internet was only available in the lobby, a quiet, relaxing area (in keeping with the mountain retreat setting) would have been welcome (expected in any descent hotel).  Instead the lobby area was a cross between a circus and a disco.  A person who appeared to be the hotel's entertainment officer, ensured that load pop music was constantly playing and encouraged any young children to run and yell through he lobby area - an activity he lead by example. 

While one staff member stood out as polite, competent and helpful, the same could not be said of the other reception staff.   I might have thought that foreign tourists would be welcomed at Hotel Grisone - instead we seemed to some staff to be the unwanted intruders.

The building itself is in a reasonable state of repair, but there were areas that were very much in need to maintenance or replacement.  

The Grisone was probably once a true 4 star hotel  - sadly it is no longer.  Shame, because the Lake Laceno area is very beautiful in summer and is no doubt even better in the winter.
